A breeder with a good track record at Balmoral Show was
buzzing when his shearling ewe named Matt’s Honeybee ET
claimed the Supreme Championship on Wednesday, 10 May,
for Matthew Burleigh.
Tapped out as Female Champion by Andrew Baillie, of the
Callacrag Flock near Lanark, and also claiming the home-bred
title, this daughter of the privately purchased Buckles Fizzy Pop
is out of the Matt’s Defender-sired Matt’s Equipped, making her
a full sister to the 8000gns ram lamb, Matt’s Hercules.
She has winning ways in her blood though as her grand-dam,
Matt’s Curious, was Champion at the Irish National Show at
Omagh in 2018, and her maternal sister, Matt’s Gypsy Girl, was
Champion at the 2022 Royal Welsh.
It was a great day for Andrew and Jamie McCutcheon when they
dominated the male section and saw their ram lamb named
Bodoney Jackpot ET go on to stand Male Champion and Reserve
Supreme. This February-born lad is another with prize winning
genetics as his dam, the Woodies Dominator-sired Bodoney
Emerald, was Champion here last year while his sire, Cybi
Glyndwr, won the aged ram class.
The Airyolland Eisbar-sired Glyndwr is out of Withy Trees Eeny,
Meeny, Miny, Mo, herself by Bailey Brook Chief.
The McCutcheons also headed up the shearling ram class with
the home-bred Bodoney Hawkeye ET, a Culsh Elvis son bred from
the Hackney Wonderboy-sired Bodoney Diana, and won the
Group of Three class as well.
Adding to the celebrations, Bodoney Echo ET, which is by
Woodies Dominator and out of the Lyonpark Thrust-bred Beautry
Wanda, won the aged ewe class.
The Reserve spots both went to second prize entries as Elizabeth
McAllister’s Artnagullion Hola ET stood Reserve Female. Her
pedigree features Airyolland Eejit on to the Ardstewart Armani-
sired Artnagullion Daisy, while Elizabeth’s winning ewe lamb,
Artnagullion Jojo ET, is by Edendiack Hitman and out of
Artnagullion Ever So Clever, a Belvoir View Cadillac Jack
daughter.
Gary and Julie Scott’s second prize ram lamb from their Bessy
Bell Flock, went on to stand Reserve Male with the duo also
heading up the Pair of Lambs class and then added to their
success by winning the Exhibitor-bred Pair of Ram Lambs Inter-
breed Championship.
