ROYAL CORNWALL SHOW
15
A shearling ewe from Jessica Collings rose to the top of the
prize winners as she claimed the Female Championship
and then Supreme ticket at the Royal Cornwall Show where
Richard Sharp of the Belvoir View Flock had the honour of
placing the entries.
Mr Sharp, who recently dispersed his well-known flock, was
looking for a well-muscled sheep with great conformation that
also had a bit of style to catch his eye, and found that in
abundance in his winner, Matt’s Hula Hoops ET.
Bought at Harrison and Hetherington’s Carlisle centre from
Northern Irish breeder, Matthew Burleigh, to join Jessica’s
Barton Flock, Hula Hoops is by the privately purchased Buckles
Fizzy Pop whose breeding has done well for the Matt’s Flock.
Hula Hoops’ dam, too, is full of breeding as Matt’s Desert Rose
is by Hackney Corker and our of Matt’s Atomic.
Securing the same place as he did in 2022, Beckbred Flyer ET,
claimed the Male Championship before going on to stand
Reserve Supreme for mother and daughter duo, Sandra and
Amy Payne, who use him in their Windsor Flock. Bred by Chris
and Laura Beck, this Balbrydie Winston daughter is bred from
the Glenkeen Kerney-sired Hackney Missie.
Proving to be a good breeder, Flyer sired the winning ram lamb
in the shape of Windsor Just The Boss which us out of Windsor
Foxy Lady and the Paynes combined these with another to win
the Group of Three class.
It was a day for the senior sheep as the first prize aged ewe, an
unnamed Loandhu ewe from IM Braund, stood Reserve Female.
Originally bred by Alan Munro, this one-crop Culsh Exclusive
daughter is out of Loandhu Catherine, herself by Airyolland
Wurzel.
Taking the Reserve Male honours was Kingledores Highlander
ET from another mother and daughter duo, Lorna and Victoria
Gregory. This shearling ram was bought at Carlisle from Richard
Wood, and his pedigree features the noted Kingledores Betty
Boo, a Clary Ablaze daughter, while his sire is the 30,000gns
Borderesk Finders Keepers.
Also in the tickets was Hunrosa Jubilant Lady, the first prize ewe
lamb from Jack Simpson. Her pedigree features Hackney Excel
on to Fingle English Muffin.
