WELSH NATIONAL SHOW
19
It was quite the journey for a ram lamb at the Welsh
National Show held at Aberystwyth and Ceredigion on
Saturday, 10 June, when Gyffin Journey Man ET secured the
Male Championship before being tapped out as Supreme
Champion for Edward Cyril Lloyd Lewis and grandson, Alex
Martin.
Picked out by Dafydd Lewis, of the Cothi Flock, Journey Man has
some proven breeding behind him being by the Clary Dumfries
ram shared between four Welsh flocks, while his dam is the
prolific Artnagullion Buttercup, an Ardstewart Armani daughter
that has bred well in the Gyffin Flock.
There were further celebrations for Edward and Alex when
Journey Man’s full sister from the same flush, Gyffin Just Dance
ET, took the red ticket in the ewe lamb class.
Securing the Female Championship and Reserve Supreme
tickets was Dafydd Owen’s shearling ewe, Smart Ass Hallmark
ET, which is by another shared ram in the shape of Wannop’s
Finger Licken’. Her dam is the Kingledores Braveheart-sired
Hackney Easy on the Eye.
Standing Reserve to the winning ram lamb was Sion Jones’
Fronarth Hulk ET, a shearling ram by Osprey Geronimo bred by
Wannop’s Flick, a Matt’s Edward daughter.
Among the females it was Michael and Heulwen Owens’ aged
ewe, Glantre Ebony Rose ET, that took the Reserve Female
honours. She is by Airyolland Conan and our of Ardstewart
Attractive Lady.
Heading up the aged ram class was Trystan Davies’ home-bred
Gwyddil Gangster which is by Glantre Evolution and out of
Rattray’s Bo Peep Korenhof.
