ROYAL THREE COUNTIES SHOW
23
She had big boots to fill but Aled Groucott’s shearling ewe
certainly didn’t disappoint at Royal Three Counties, host of
the English National, when she not only secured the Beltex
Supreme Champion title but went on to take the Inter-
breed Championship.
Big shoes to fill because her dam, the Topflite Al Pacino-sired
Swffryd Diamante, won numerous breed and Inter-breed
Championships throughout her show career and has been
leaving her mark on her offspring. A naturally-born twin, Heidi’s
sire is Airyolland Fujiyama and she originally headed up a very
strong shearling ewe class before landing the Female and
Supreme Championships under judge, Stuart Wood, of the
Woodies Flock.
“She is an outstanding example of the breed with meat in all
the right places and very good on her legs too,” commented the
judge of the Inter-breed Championship, Gary Beacom. “Even in
the heat we had today when some of the line-up was struggling,
she never lost that spark and showed herself very well.”
Standing Reserve Supreme was a ram lamb named Skelton
Whin Jaguar from the Hunter family, which Mr Wood said
handled exceptionally well. Bred out of the Hackney Cantona
daughter, Skelton Whin Elsie, Jaguar is sired by Withy Trees
Garibaldi. The Hunters added to their prize haul with the first
prize Pair.
Following the Champion through from the shearling ewe class
to stand Reserve Female was Chris and Laura Beck’s Vicky’s Hope
ET, which was bought as a ewe lamb from Carlisle in December.
This Orkney Eurostar daughter is out of the Woodies Wots Up
Doc-sired Tiptop Allstar.
Angus Mutch’s Ardstewart Grey Goose, an 8000gns purchase
from the Carlisle Premier the year before, was Reserve Male. His
pedigree features Riverview Fury on to Ardstewart Ella, an
Ardstewart Darth Vader daughter.
Winning the aged ewe class was Buckles Grace ET from Louie
Van Geffen. Bought at the Buckles production sale, this girl’s
breeding needs little introduction as she is by Buckles Espresso
while her dam is the noted Buckles Annie Power.
Louie had a good run in the female section as he also won the
ewe lamb class with Geffens J-Lo ET whose breeding features
Gyffin Dexter on to Geffens Gossip Girl. She was judged Best
Lamb and adding to the celebrations Louis was also first with
his Group of Three Lambs.
Heading up the shearling ram class was Fronarth Hunk ET from
Sion Jones, an Osprey Geronimo son which stood Reserve Male
at the Welsh National Show the previous week. His dam is
Wannop’s Flick.
Young Coles led the way in the Young Handlers section as Rosie
won the junior section and stood Champion, while older brother
Harry won the senior section.
