PENRITH SHOW
45
Despite some of the heaviest downpours seen at Penrith,
the sun was shining on Brian Hall’s shearling ram which
stood Male and Supreme Champion at the Progeny Show.
Although many sheep were only a few hours home from the
Great Yorkshire, a strong turnout was presented to the judge,
William McAllister, Artnagullion, who found his Supreme in the
shape of Brian’s Kingledores Engleburt son, Ainstable Hammer
ET. Hammer himself had stood Champion at Skelton Show a few
weeks before, and is bred from the Bailey Brook CR7-sired Black
Jack Esmeralda.
The Procters team of Jeff, Jen, Katie and Robbie Aiken, had
plenty to celebrate as their shearling ewe, Procters Hayley, stood
Female Champion and Reserve Supreme. She is bred from
Procters Fancy Pants, a Clary Desperado daughter, while her sire
is Faughhill Francisco, a three-shear which won the aged ram
class.
Sired by Ryder DIY and out of Faughhill Daenerys Stormborn,
Faughhill Francisco also sired the second prize shearling ram
and Reserve Male, Katie’s Hakuna Matata ET from young Katie
Aiken. His mother is the privately purchased Glenpark Dynamite
daughter, Twinsplusone Favourite.
Also in the prizes for Procters was the winning ram lamb, Procters
Jethro ET, which this time is by Curwen Hill George and out of
Procters Expression, with a trio from the Procters team winning
the Group of Three class.
Shearlings were the flavour of the day as the second prize
gimmer went on to stand Reserve Female for Jeff and Sue
Wilkinson, together with son, Steve. The Logie Durno Godfather-
sired Langlands Holly ET is out of last year’s Reserve Supreme,
the Edendiack Darius-sired Langlands Farrah.
Winning the ewe lamb class was Langlands J-Low ET, whose
pedigree features Smart Ass Alfie on to Ardstewart Gaynor.
The show includes a large number of classes for sheep by the
same sire where Brian Hall secured the red ticket in both the
Pair of Shearlings by the Same Sire and Three Ewe Lambs by the
Same Sire classes, while the Wilkinsons headed up the class for
Pair of Lambs by the Same Sire and Nick Gill and Kayley Kennedy
won the Three Ram Lambs by the Same Sire.
