SCOTTISH NATIONAL SHOW
51
It is quite an achievement when a Beltex secures the Inter-
breed honours at a show, but when the Champion at a
National Show goes one better to stand Champion of
Champions, well that gives plenty of reasons to celebrate.
That’s just what happened at the Scottish National held at Biggar
Show when Alan Miller’s Lurg Hiccup ET first caught the eye of
Beltex judge, Jock McMillan, before going on to take the top
honours of the whole show. Her dam, the Bailey Brook Chief-
sired Lurg Fern, is no stranger to the prizes having won the Royal
Highland Showcase a few years back, while the sire of this
second prize winner from the Royal Highland is Vicky’s Gladiator.
The Lurg team of Alan, daughter Ellie, and stockman Finn
Christie, had plenty to celebrate as they also won the aged ewe
class with Sinclair’s Daisy ET, which is by Kingledores Battleaxe
and out of Broughton Bryony, as well as the senior ewe lamb
class with Lurg Juicy Lucy ET – this time by Woodies Explosive
and out of Kingledores Felicity.
The team also won the Group of Four class with an impressive
line up.
Following the champion all the way through from the shearling
ewe class, Mortons High Flyer ET from Andrew Morton and
children, Kirsty and Andrew, stood Reserve Female and Reserve
Supreme. Another by the prolific Gyffin Dexter shared with
Buckles, her dam is Mortons Dawn, herself by Mortons Captain
America.
In a similar position, the top two shearling rams were Male
Champion and Reserve with Andrew Baillie’s Callacrag Hell Fire–
by Wannop’s Firecracker and out of Callacrag Erma, a Mortons
Cheeky Boy daughter – standing Male Champion.
Reserve Male was Mortons Hit Man which this time was by
Ardstewart Fancy Pants and out of the Gyffin Dexter-sired
Mortons Flamingo.
The Mortons also won the junior ewe lamb class with Mortons
Jessie J which is full of home breeding being by Mortons
Gremlin and out of Mortons Fairytale, as well as the class for Pair
by the Same Sire.
Elsewhere in the male section, Wannop’s Great Expectations won
the aged ram class for Andrew Baillie, and Jimmy Bell and
Rachel Buckle. This Aviemore Festival son is our of Brickrow
Emma.
Heading up the senior ram lamb class was Jim Hamilton’s Clary
Fly-Boy son, Mid Shawtonhill Juggernaut, which is out of
Shawtonhill Deja Vu, while Cameron Cormack’s Woodies
Heman-sired Dunrod Jack Daniels won the junior class. His dam
is Netherholm Gillian.
A hotly contested Young Handlers section was headed up by
Finlay Barclay, while Kirsten Russell was Reserve.
