CARLISLE EWES WITH LAMBS
It was the very first lot in the ring that topped the Beltex
Sheep Society’s offering at Harrison and Hetherington’s
May Fair Pedigree Sheep Sale at Carlisle on Friday, 26 May,
when a ewe lamb named Woodies Juicy ET was knocked
down for 3000gns.
This January-born ET is by the 16,000gns Woodies Explosive that
sired Alan Millar’s 50,000gns and 45,000gns shearling rams
sold at the Carlisle Premier last year, while her dam is the
Woodhow Dakota-sired Kingledores Felicity, which is in turn out
of the noted Kingledores Bessy. After some swift bidding she
was sold online to the Usk Vale team of Willy Davies and Paul
Rowlands.
Next in and selling for the second highest price of 1500gns was
the ewe lamb pair, Woodies Jellybean ET and Woodies Jamjar
ET, from the flock near Skene, Westhill. Selling to John Shedden
and Sons for their Newfield Mains Flock near Kilmarnock, they
are by the 30,000gns Borderesk Finders Keepers and out of
Woodies Glitter, a Bailey Brook CR7 daughter.
Stuart also sold the dearest of the ewe hoggs when his Woodies
Hazel ET was knocked down to J Skidmore and Co, Eastgate,
Bishop Auckland. This substitute’s pedigree features Skiddaw
View Endurance on to Buckles Babybel.
Ali Jackson saw his Tiptop Flock from near Annan top at 600gns
when Mark Jennings paid that to take Tiptop Heidi home to his
Hallcrake Flock near Kendal. Sired by Ardstewart Fireballs, she
is out of the Hackney Corker daughter, Tiptop Emerald.
Hitting 580gns was Ted Benn’s Clary Donegal-sired Benndale
gimmer from near Cotherstone, Barnard Castle. Bred from the
Faughhill Dirty-sired Faughhill Elizabeth, she sold to Marion
Mackay and heads north to Shetland.
