Otley Show I 20th May 2023
Firstly thank you to all the exhibitors that turned cattle out for me to judge at
Otley show on a beautiful sunny day.
JUDGE: R KITE, COTONHALL
First class of the day in the maiden
heifers class with 7 forward I went
with my first place heifer for being
more dairy and opened ribbed,
Having more length of body than
a very balanced calf in second.
Second over third for handling her
feet and legs better than a very
stylish, super dairy heifer in third.
My first place in calf heifer was
hard topped with beautiful drop
to her rib giving her the main
advantage of more capacity over
a clean thighed heifer that had
better feet and legs than a long
bodied heifer in third.
First over second in the dry class
was a mature cow carrying her
5th over a younger cow carrying
her 2nd and just being more
developed with great capacity
than the young cow with a very
promising udder for the lactation
ahead of her.
One milk heifer forward that I
admired for dairy strength with a
well attached udder.

Champion – Oxton Clarity Duchess 249
In the cow class I had two very nice
third lactation cows but I had no
hesitation going with the cow in first
having more bloom in the udder, she
had fantastic width in the rear which
was well attached, she was also more
clean in her bone quality in her hock
than a very nice silky uddered cow
that just didn’t have the bloom of
udder to place over first today.
In the Championship I selected my
winning cow followed by the milk
heifer as Reserve Champion that
looks to have a promising future.
Both displayed the dairy character,
nice opened frames and strength I
like to see with well attached udders
and good teat placement.
Thank you to Otley show for the
invite and hospitality.
