FUJIFILM’S NEW ETERNA RANGE
Introducing The Hottest Trio In Town
ujifilm UK has recently intro-
F
duced three revolutionary new film products: Eterna-RDI – a film designed exclusively for digital film recorders used
for motion pictures; Eterna-CI, a colour intermediate film used to dupli- cate motion pictures; and Eterna Vivid 160, a new tungsten-type motion picture colour negative film.
Film recordings are essential for digital films to be used in the vast major- ity of cinemas, which mainly run films, and intermediate film has usually been appropriate for making duplicate prints.
With the increase in opportunities to use high-definition digital images at the 4K level, customers are increasing- ly demanding recording film quality, for which Eterna-RDI is the answer.
By designing exclusively for this application, Fujifilm has achieved a major improvement in image sharp- ness, which has always been the pri- mary concern. This film responds to the need for higher-definition digital image output.
Also, after carefully examining the photographic properties of laser recording, colour separation and grad- uation linearity, two vital parameters were improved, thereby dramatically improving the reproduction quality of digital film recording.
As for Eterna-CI, it used the tech- nology employed in Eterna-RDI, has increased image sharpness, which is essential to intermediate film, and has further improved colour repro- duction characteristics that are true to the original.
ETERNA-RDI FEATURES: INCREASED IMAGE SHARPNESS
The super-efficient coupler technology in the Eterna series has greatly increased image sharpness. Suppressing the colour seepage that happens during recording contributes to far higher-definition film. In combi- nation with the CDI intermediate film that improves image sharpness in duplicate prints, Eterna RDI greatly improves total film quality.
DRAMATIC REDUCTION IN COLOUR MAKING
Eterna-RDI expands the range of effective exposure by preventing spectrographic colour mixing. This technology has made it possible to obtain a far wider range of colour reproduction.
WIDE LATITUDE AND LINEARITY
Having reviewed the photograph- ic properties of film recordings, Fujifilm recognised the need to improve linearity and expand latitude. Photographic density of 2.2 or more above base (measured Status M) greatly improves linearity in high exposure settings, this expanding the practical exposure range.
ETERNA-CDI FEATURES:
IMPROVES SHARPNESS
It is dramatically improved by the new super-efficient coupler technolo- gy. Loss of resolution when making duplicate prints is minimised.
REFINED GRADATION BALANCE AND COLOUR REPRODUCTION
Refined gradation balance and colour reproduction Improves the gra- dation and colour balance reproduc- tion properties of original film. Duplicate prints remain much closer to the original.
contrast emulsion and high colour sat- uration. It reproduces crisp images, intense and translucent colours, and deep blacks and enables a wide range of expressive dramatic effects.
ITS FEATURES INCLUDE: HIGH COLOUR SATURATION
An evolved version of Eterna the series, Super Efficient DIR-Coupler Technology promotes adhesion and separation of colours, creating a rich and translucent palette.
EXCELLENT IMAGE SHARPNESS
The performance parameters of the proprietary technologies devel- oped for the Eterna family of motion picture colour negative films has been optimised, achieving exceptional sharpness. High contrast and highly
saturated colour boosts per- ceived image sharpness, creating motion picture
images with exceptional depth and dimension.
OPTIMISED GRADATION BALANCE
Eterna Vivid 160 produces balanced, attractive skin tones and greys across a wide range of
exposure conditions.
HIGH CONTRAST
Compared to the other four motion picture colour negative films in the Eterna family, Vivid 160 is characterised by high contrast, which combines with a highly saturated palette to produce rich, vivid colour and crisp, deep blacks required for theatrical films.
ENHANCED TELECINE CHARACTERISTICS
Enhanced linear response and excellent colour balance minimise the need for colour adjustment during telecine transfer. Optimisation of orange mask density and sharpness balance results in improved scanning characteristics, producing crisp, clear prints and minimising noise during film scanning. ■

ETERNA VIVID 160
Now more than a month in its launch, there’s Eterna Vivid 160
(EI 160; 35mm/16mm) which has been formulated to deliver high colour satu- ration and high contrast with excep- tionally enhanced sharpness.
With the efficient work of Fujifilm’s proprietary grain and cou- pler technology, Eterna Vivid 160 delivers the highest colour saturation and contrast with exceptionally enhanced sharpness.
All films in the Eterna family are characterised by their ability to repro- duce natural skin tones and greys from under-to over-exposed conditions. In addition to these characteristics, Eterna Vivid 160 is designed as a high-
