                                            Her Shocking Sibling
        THE QUEEN’S SISTER
he monarch doesn’t appear at all in Channel Four’s contro- versial new two-hour drama, The Queen’s Sister, which aired last month. Instead the focus
is very much on the private life and times of HRH Princess Margaret.
Written by Craig Warner, it’s direct- ed by Simon Cellan-Jones who said: “Whatever you think of Princess Margaret, you have to admit she was a fascinating, complex and utterly con- flicted character.
“She was the ultimate spoilt brat but, because she had an elder sibling, her role in life was never going to be more than second in line: a position that decreased with the births, mar- riages and children of her nephews and nieces.
“She was renowned for her beauty, glamour and wit, but also for her rude- ness, arrogance and selfishness. She was fiery and passionate, driven by anger and love. In fact she makes for the perfect movie heroine.”
Starring Lucy Cohu, Toby Stephens and David Threlfall, The Queen’s Sister was originated on 16mm Eterna 500T 8673 by Danish-born cameraman David Katznelson. Cellan-Jones explained ‘the look’: “Royal dra-
mas are usually filmed as opu-
lently as possible, highlighting all
that glamour and wealth. Of all
the royal family, I think Margaret
was the rawest. I wanted the
camera to admire her glamour,
but to be harsh and unforgiving
as she aged and became more
and more unhappy.” ■
