IN MEMORIAM • MICHAEL SAMUELSON CBE BSC
  MOVING IMAGE MOVE
Michael Samuelson CBE BSC, who died in September aged 67, was not just part of the famous equipment company that bore the family name but also an active
and versatile film-maker in
his own right.
He helped produce, direct and photograph a number of official films of the Olympic Games and World Cup, beginning with Goal!, charting England’s 1966 triumph. Despite undergoing a major operation, he was also an active part of the team that recorded the most recent soccerthon - in France earlier this year.
His contribution to film was recognised with membership of the British Society of Cinematographers, honorary membership of the Guild
of British Camera Technicians and fellowship of the British Kinematographic Sound and Television Society. He was also a tireless charity fundraiser. ■
The BKSTS’ Moving Image Society now has its own all-new,1070-strong London branch with a dedicated team headed by joint chairpersons, Clive Woodly and Wendy Laybourn. Secretary is Sarah Fitzpatrick and Howard Woolf of Levy Gee is Treasurer.
As well as covering study, research, education and training in all aspects of film and television production, distribution, allied arts and sciences, the Society’s aim is also to promote the exchange of ideas and knowledge to members and non-members alike while encouraging co-operation between organisations within the industry.
The new London branch believes that informative and pleasantly sociable networking evenings can achieve a great deal, interspersed with screenings not only of feature films but also selected TV programmes and series that may have been missed first time round due to erratic working schedules.
