As the BBC still reels from the charge that it is ‘hideously white’, Parminder Vir spells out the true meaning of Cultural Diversity
When I started at the BBC fifteen years ago people would often mistake me for the tea lady which per- haps was unsurprising given that most of the ethnic staff at the time did occupy the lowest positions with- in the company. Fifteen years on here at Carlton, our tea lady is black and the management is currently white as is the case with practically all the major broadcasters in this country. There have been some improvements in the middle strand, but we still have a long way to go to achieve real diversity within our companies.
