Having helped attract over 400 movies to shoot in London in the last two years alone, the investment would surely be worth it. Films as diverse as Wilde, Ent rapment , Spiceworld, 101 Dalmat ians, The Mummy, The Wings of the Dove, and Eyes Wide Shut would undoubtedly have looked quite different - and probably cost more - without the help of the London Film Commission. London currently ranks as the third busiest film production centre in the world, after Los Angeles and New York, a fact due in no small part to Albery’s sterling efforts.
One of her final accomplishments and one she’ll never forget was helping the producers of the new James Bond movie The World Is Not Enough com- plete a breathtaking chase sequence down the River Thames, as well as staging a dramatic showdown atop the Millennium Dome.
“Barbara Broccoli explained that if we couldn’t pull it off she would take the sequence elsewhere. I said we could, taking my heart into my mouth once
more, and we actually did by working with the vari- ous agencies concerned. And I think it will be absolutely wonderful, it’s the most beautiful part of London, and to have that eventually seen on film by 55 million people worldwide cannot be anything but a huge plug for London.” ■ ANWAR BRETT
