         SEEING DOUBLE
MADE-FOR-TV POP BAND
A fter four successful years for S Club (originally S
Club 7) – which have seen their TV series broadcast in over 100 countries – the British pop band are now Seeing Double. That’s
the title of their breezy, all singing-all dancing feature-length debut in which the close-knit group – Hannah, Rachel, Jon, Bradley, Tina and Jo – suddenly encounter a rather sinister cloned ver- sion of themselves.
Written by series’ regulars Kim Fuller and Paul Alexander, the film is set in Los Angeles and Barcelona, where S Club filmed their fourth TV series, Viva S Club.
Produced for Columbia Pictures by Indie-winning 19 Entertainment’s Simon Fuller (Pop Idol), who managed The Spice Girls through their first film, Spiceworld – The Movie, Seeing Double is directed by Nigel Dick.
Co-founder of Propaganda Films, the Brit filmmaker has directed over 250 music videos, 18 documentaries and the odd feature. He has also snared three MTV awards, two Billboard awards and three MVPA awards.
In 1999, Dick directed the first ever made-for-MTV movie 2Gether. Watched
by 23 million, it spawned a TV series and a top 40 soundtrack album which contains three songs he co-wrote.
Director of Photography on Seeing Double is Spanish cameraman Joan (aka Juan) Benet who as, variously, an assistant, focus puller and operator has worked on films like Land And Freedom, Passion In The Desert, Wilde, Live Flesh and Presence Of Mind.
According to Dick: “When we start- ed rehearsing in an ugly hotel room back in September 2002, I said to the band, ‘this film isn’t about making the critics happy and I can tell you now what the reviews will be like.
“But I’m intensely proud of our mini-epic which spanned the oceans and the seasons. We set out to have some fun and create a fine piece of entertainment that will appeal to S Club fans and non-believers alike.
“It’s not Hamlet and it was never meant to be. I just wanted us to shoot a movie that would give someone the same thrill I had when I first saw Summer Holiday at the Cromer Odeon when I was 10. And I truly believe we have succeeded.” ■
