QUENTIN FALK ON THE LIFE AND GOOD TIMES OF
NOTAB
A GREAT ACTOR, DIRECTOR AND BON VIVEUR...
AS WELL AS THE LATEST RECRUIT TO THE BAFTA FELLOWSHIP
Photo: Albert Finney with his Fellowship Award
On May 9, the first day of the Cannes Film Festival, Albert Finney will be eligible for a bus pass. But reaching the official age of senior citizenry is unlikely to curb the Salford-born star’s huge appetite for life and work.
At the recent Orange British Academy Awards, Finney became the thirteenth actor to receive a BAFTA Fellowship following in the footsteps of, among others, Olivier, Gielgud, Guinness, Connery, Caine and Dame Maggie Smith, who was on hand to make the official presentation.
If this was a case of thirteenth lucky – and Finney seemed genuine- ly thrilled at the accolade – the same can’t quite be said for his strike rate at the higher-profile film award ceremonies.
