Freed now from the shackles of the British Film Institute chairmanship, Oscar-winning producer JEREMY THOMAS is putting the final touches to All The Little Animals, his first film as a direc- tor. We review his brilliant career to date which has made him an interna- tionally respected film-maker the world over.
Two fine cinematographers describe their upward rise from very different sides of the indus- try: OSSIE RAWI, back in this country after various features and commercials on the other side of the Atlantic, has been lighting Parting Shots for the irrepressible Michael Winner, while CHRIS O’DELL, schooled in documentary, has become one of the small-screen’s most prolific drama cameramen.
As for operator MIKE PROUDFOOT, he’s a 20-year veteran of many great movies, most recently the much acclaimed The Wings Of The Dove.
What could possibly follow those fearsome Gladiators? None other than ITV’s new £3 million weekend blockbuster ICE WARRIORS. Series produc- er ANDY NORGATE explains how his new sensations
turned from sketches in a note book to crash-bang reality which, we reveal, “makes Gladiators look like a moderately heated bout of tiddlywinks.”
Rather more civilised, but just as sure of a large audience, is a remarkable new film project called TREASURES OF THE WORLD which will eventually feature each and every one of the World Heritage Sites. Producer PHILIP MORRIS unveils the sheer scale of this massive enterprise along with some quite stunning and unique photographic material.
Our Cover Story is SAMANTHA JANUS, BBC tele- vision’s Game On comedy girl who, having recent- ly finished one movie, was immediately signed up for another of a quite different sort, taking a rugby team by storm in the comedy Up ‘N’ Under.
TELE-CINE tries to make sense of the “B” word with great success and JOE DUNTON MBE finds a new home for his gong at the re-born Elstree Studios.
All this and a host of recent prize-winners in features, shorts and video plus a personal reflection by the recently retired British Film Commissioner, SIR SYDNEY SAMUELSON, on the successful current UK production scene. EXPOSURE goes fourth. ■
