These discussions will be written up and put into a document stat- ing the vision of Interative Television Producers. This day will provide a vital opportunity for producers to make their voice heard and raise issues such as the need for longer lead-in times, bet- ter tools and greater investment.
“Interactive TV is transforming the way BBC and other UK pro- duction organisations are dealing with all types of programming,” says Frank Boyd, at BBC Training and Development and also a founding member of BAFTA’s inter- active entertainment committee.
“As our country makes this historic transition, we can only benefit by seeing examples from
our American cousins. We are very pleased that the AFI is so eager to help bridge the gap that still exists in the worldwide television marketplace when it comes to interactivity.”
BAFTA has played an important role in fostering excellence in tradi- tional film and television in the UK, and for a number of years has held a dedicated awards ceremo- ny for interactive entertainment.
This event with AFI and BBC is a perfect companion to BAFTA’s regular forums for members and it provides and opportunity to raise the awareness of the issues fac- ing interactive television within the industry as a whole.
Read My Lips
October 22 is Read My Lips day at BAFTA. Morning and afternoon feature a major Read My Lips equipment and training event hosted and sponsored by Sony and Skillset – this is the place to find out about the new gear and new learning opportunities.
The evening sees a Celebration of the industry’s BECTU History Project which since 1987 has clocked up an astonish- ing 560 interviews - 3,000 hrs plus - with stars and footsoldiers from features to television and cinema newsreel to documentaries.
Now internationally recog- nised, the archive is used by web-
sites from secondary schools and public libraries to universities and film buff sites.
Compered by Esther Rantzen, speakers will include the Films Minister, Sir Sydney Samuelson, Carlton’s Clive Jones and web- masters from the BFI, the BUFVC and the University of East Anglia. Film clips, extracts from interviews plus websites will make this a fas- cinating and lively event.
