After another year of success- fully promoting new writers, Fujifilm has once again agreed to sponsor the Television Arts Performance Showcase (TAPS) for another sea- son. TAPS Retrospective Screenings were held at BAFTA last month and five of this season’s contributing writers were chosen to compete for the coveted TAPS Writer of The Year Award. The winner, announced by Maurice Gran (of the Gran-Marks tandem) at a BAFTA Gala, was Jonathan Lewis, better known as
Sgt McCleod in Soldier, Soldier, for his first play Our Boys.
A number of this year’s writers have received commissions from programmes like The Bill and Casualty, while Jason Sutton’s screenplay, House!, was optioned by Michael Kelk Film Productions.
As well as its writers’ promo- tion, TAPS is giving hope to up-and- coming comedy writers by holding its first ever Creative Comedy Writing Course at Teddington Studios, run by sitcom master, Vince Powell (Love Thy Neighbour, Here’s Harry, Coronation Street etc).■

Fujifilm’s commitment to international sport continues with sponsorship of soccer’s World Cup in France next year. The biggest sporting event on earth will be a major platform for the company name with striking green and red logos appearing around all 10 stadiums at 64 matches between June 10 and July 12. There are 11 sponsors in all with Fujifilm as “Official Film.”
The television audience is expected to far outstrip the
6.68 billion who watched the Euro 96 Championships. Fujifilm has been associated with international football since the 1982 World Cup
in Spain where it was one of the main sponsors.
