IF YOU GO DOWN TO
THE CAVES AGAIN...
A REPORT FROMTHE SET OF THE DESCENT: PART 2
equels to small British movies Sare rare. But with 2005’s The
Descent raking in more than $60m worldwide, it was proba- bly, as they say, a “no-brainer”
when Celador Films decided to see if lightning would strike twice.
This time round, writer-director Neil Marshall has stepped back but, as executive producer, still kept a very close eye on his original brand. However, key department heads like Production Designer (Simon Boswell), Make up Effects (Paul Hyett) and Director of Photography (Sam McCurdy) are all back for front- line second helpings.
The most significant promo- tion sees editor Jon Harris, who won a British Independent Film award for Technical Achievement on The Descent, making a feature debut as director.
Harris, 41, whose editing cred- its also include Snatch, Layer Cake, Stardust and Eden Lake, had directed shorts while still at film school. “I was just interested in the process of story-telling. When it came actually to making a living, editing seemed to be a more applicable trade.”
