Standards are constantly evolving and the BBFC may in the future have to keep its Classification Guidelines under review on a more regular basis.
The role of the Council of Management is to give guidance and advice, particularly in finan-
cial and administrative matters to the Boards Management team. At this time the role of the BBFC and its relationship to other regu- latory bodies is open to discussion and debate.
As Chairman of the Council of Management I am anxious to see the Board develop its policy of openness and transparency whilst ensuring that it provides the movie industry with a cost effec- tive self regulatory body.
The Board has, under the leadership of its President, Andreas Whittam Smith, Vice Presidents, Janet Lewis Jones and Lord Taylor of Warwick and Director, Robin Duval made great progress in the direction of wider
understanding of the Boards work and efficiency of operation.
I look forward to leading the Council of Management team in finding a new President to replace Andreas Whittam Smith, who is sadly leaving the Board, it will be a crucial component in ensuring the continuation of the new direction for the Board.
