can tell them straight away. While there are advantages to taking the online route you can’t beat a good customer service person who knows what they’re doing, knows exactly what you want and how fast you need it.”
Whether your disk requirements are floppy or hard, Protape strives to meet them, with a stock range that extends from blank audio cassettes to high end pro-digital tape with a huge amount in between.
“We’ve got a very wide spectrum of clients,” adds Bob Matthews, “from major corporations like Ascent Media and MTV and Sky Television at one
end to someone shooting a wedding video at the other. And because they’re all important to us we aim to provide the full range.”
This comprehensive approach to their business also gives Protape an insight into future trends and develop- ments, as the landscape of products seems to change month on month and year on year.
“We’ve obviously seen a great many technology driven changes throughout the industry,” Matthews adds. “When we first started everything was analogue but we had to move with those times and accommodate the digital revolution.
“Now things are moving from tape into more hard disk driven formats, and Firewire technology. We supply that kind of thing more and more. And there’s a space saving issue there as well as a cost saving issue.
“A drive will cost you in the region of maybe £150, whereas 16 reels would cost £70 per reel. So there are big sav- ings to be made there as technology marches on.”
“And as the market moves on,” Anthony Henry promises, “so do we.” ■ ANWAR BRETT
