Rocliffe’s Award-Winning Debut
R ocliffe’s first film No Deposit, No Return has been doing
extremely well on the festivals circuit. Starring Sian Reeves (Cutting It) and Trevor Fox
(Billy Elliot, Gabriel And Me), the short film is about a woman in despair who holds up a sperm bank and gets more than she bargained for.
So far, the film has been awarded UK Film Council Completion Funding, was premiered and in competition at this year’s Edinburgh Film Festival and is in competition as part of the UK Selection at the 2004 Raindance Film Festival.
It will also feature at the Cardiff Screen Festival in November and now qualifies for entry in the British Independent Film Awards and the BAFTAs. DP Nanu Segal has also been selected by Screen International as one of the stars of tomorrow.
The founders of Rocliffe are Farah Abushwesha, Pippa Mitchell and Kerry Appleyard.
No Deposit, No Return - sponsored by Fujifilm, Panavision, Lee Lighting, LEM Digital, Ealing Studios and Lipsync Post - was originated on 35mm Fujicolor Motion Picture Negative. ■

P
eter Allwork (below), the pio- neering aerial cameraman who, in the 70s, survived a spectacular helicopter crash on a frozen Scottish loch,
died earlier this year.
Allwork – whose award-winning cameraman son Matthew died tragi- cally in a helicopter crash only last year – was a fearless operator before setting up Aerial Camera Systems in 1980 with his wife Frances as compa- ny secretary.
Long before he was encouraged by Peter Sellers in the 60s to set up his own aerial filming business, Allwork began in the industry during the war as a 15-year-old with Leslie Howard’s production company.
But once he was finally up, up and away, his flying assignments included The Red Baron, Aces High (for which he received a BAFTA nomination), A Bridge Too Far, Superman and Out Of Africa, which won its DP, David Watkin, the Oscar for Best Cinematography.
Among the more recent films serv- iced by ACS with its innovative tech- nology for the movie and TV indus- tries, are Braveheart (which took Allwork back to that same Scottish Loch), Seven Years in Tibet, Gladiator and the Harry Potter series.
A very keen golfer and veteran of many Fujifilm golf days, Allwork leaves Frances and a daughter, Samantha. ■
Allwork, together with pilot John Poland, was shooting point-of-view material for the time-warp adventure The Land That Time Forgot when his chopper went down.
After 12 hours, four flares, increas- ingly icy limbs and a lot of barley sugar later the pair were rescued by the Lossiemouth-based Air Sea Rescue. Before the crash Allwork was 6ft 3ins; after it, he was an inch short- er due to the accident.
Fuji & CTV OB Invitation Golf Day
The weather was miraculously fine for the 2nd Golf Day of 2004. It rained in and around all of London and Surrey, but it somehow managed not to fall
on St George’s Hill Golf Club on Friday 20 August. As Eric Mould always says ‘It never rains on the righteous’.
It was nice to see some newcomers at the event – Nigel Dennis from Technicolor, Terry Alford from CTV, Graham Wilkins from BAA. Also David Philips, Kirk Millier, Jacque Lewis, Gerard Magennis and of course the winner of the Individual Stableford, Ian Finnigan from Jetix.
On behalf of Fujifilm & CTV OB, we would like to thank Mike Jopp and Bob Griffiths from Hyperactive Broadcast Hire for sponsoring the halfway house.
