   THREE OF THE BEST
    F ollowing his sharing (with Volver’s José Luis Alcaine) of
the award for European Cinematographer of the year (for The Wind That Shakes The
Barley), Barry Ackroyd BSC was recog- nised by BAFTA with a nomination for his work on United 93, which, like Wind, was also originated on Fujifilm. United 93 went on to win two BAFTAs – for director Paul Greengrass and Editing. It also earned Oscar nominations in that pair of categories.
Andtomakeitasortof Ackroyd/Fujifilm treble, Stephen Poliakoff’s BBC TV drama Gideon’s Daughter, which was also lit by Ackroyd, earned Bill Nighy and Emily Blunt, Actor and Supporting Actress, respectively, at this year’s
Golden Globes. ■
