VTR’s five-of-the-best in post-production
L ooking at media services group VTR plc’s impressive
client list and its leading position in European post- production, it’s hard to believe that less than 20 years ago it was just a
fledgling video editing operation. And John Banks, the man who
founded it and is still very much hands-on as the group’s CEO, has seen huge changes in the industry in that time – and he’s confident that the group is all set for the future.
VTR plc is the parent company for a number of subsidiaries operating in the media sector. The group’s core activities comprise all aspects of film and television programme post-pro- duction and it is proud to be is the only independent group with skills and facilities for every phase of the media lifecycle, from creation to post production to restoration, archiving, distribution and beyond.
In 1994, just 10 years after it was established, VTR obtained a full listing on the London Stock Exchange and last year had a turnover of more than £22 million in 2002, employing around 250 people.
The VTR group comprises five operating companies each recognised as a market leader in the media and communications services sectors.
The Post Production Division is involved in all aspects of film and tele- vision post production – the editing, manipulation and addition of special effects and sound to images created by its clients for films, cinema and tel- evision commercials, programmes, animations and pop promos. The divi- sion also provides specialist services such as digital film editing, film restoration, DVD authoring and the production of graphics and high quali- ty computer animation.
The Digital Media Services Division designs, builds and implements online interactive communications solutions for a wide variety of clients.
The portfolio includes digital con- tent management systems – systems which allow the organisation, storage, retrieval and delivery of documents, images and video in the form of comput- er files – and also website design, encoding, speech-to-text and colocation.
