When Spencer Tracy stayed at Claridge’s he said, “I have no inclina- tion to die but if I do, I don’t want to go to heaven, I want to go to Claridge’s.” And Katharine Hepburn, pioneer of trouser wearing, chose to use the staff entrance to avoid the “no ladies wearing trousers in the lobby” rule of the time.
Yul Brynner, Audrey Hepburn, Cary Grant, Douglas Fairbanks Jr, Gregory Peck, Bob Hope and Bing Crosby - gold- en names of Hollywood - all enjoyed the comfort, service and elegance of Claridge’s.
Today it is much the same. Recent extensive refurbishment has returned Claridge’s to its former glory. Once again it is the epitome of luxury, style and art deco elegance, now com- bined with every modern con- venience and cutting edge technology.
There are 203 individually designed bedrooms and suites, including two penthouse apart- ments. Three Michelin star chef Gordon Ramsay runs the restau- rant, Gordon Ramsay at Claridge’s. The glorious art deco Bar, Fumoir and Foyer are other destination points, be it for cock- tails, breakfast, lunch, dinner or Claridge’s famous, quintessen- tially English, Afternoon Tea.
Superior pampering - including an amazing facial to counteract the effects of jet lag - and fitness facilities are provided by the Olympus Suite. And Claridge’s is just two minutes away from the luxury shopping of Bond Street and Regent Street.
As the official hotel of the Orange British Academy Film Awards in 2004, Claridge’s looks forward to welcoming many of the nominees for this year’s ceremony.
As an extra service, Claridge’s has worked closely with BAFTA to prepare five ‘style suites’ to groom and dress guests for the awards event. Top designers and retailers will each move into a suite for three days, in the lead up to the ceremony, to offer their services.
Lancôme, renowned for its expertise in skincare and mod- ern creativity in make-up; Nicky Clarke, hairdresser to the stars; Autore, which recently launched its glamorous and very versatile collection of pearl, diamond and gemstone jew- ellery; Ashley Isham, one of Britain’s most renowned and successful young designers; and ‘suits you sir’ Austin Reed, which has been adding a touch of class to British fashion for over 100 years.
Dedicated to pampering, grooming and professional styling, the ‘style suites’ will ensure that every Cinderella and her beau will make it to the ball!
In addition, Claridge’s and her sister hotels, The Berkeley, The Connaught and The Savoy, are all offering special preferred room rates for BAFTA nominees and their guests.
With over a hundred year’s experience of entertaining entertainers, Claridge’s offers unrivalled twenty-first century technology, exemplary service, discretion and, of course, its very own brand of British style!
