BUILDING PERMITS
Economic Strength Shown in Single-Family Permit Numbers
Indianapolis,IN– TheBuilders Association of Greater Indianapolis (BAGI) announced that in the Greater Indianapolis Nine-County area, Single-Family Building Permits rose 14 percent last month compared to July 2016 numbers, the largest month over month increase so far this year. 3,671 new home permits have been issued year-to-date compared to 3,460 last year.
“As often seen during the summer months, new home construction continues to gain traction,” said Steve Lains, BAGI CEO. “We are
pleasedtoseeacontinuedsteady growth in Central Indiana housing and its associated economic impacts through local jobs, wages, and taxes. A strong year for homebuilding means a strong year for our economy.”
Hamilton County continues to pull in the most single-family permits again with 1,376, followed by Marion County reporting 612 and Hendricks County with 567. Morgan and Johnson Counties see the most signi cant percentage increases month over month so far this year
at 36 and 19 percent respectively. Overall, permit numbers only declined in two counties.
In the Greater Indianapolis Nine- County region, the permits issued in July 2017 have created a total economic impact of $657,416,642 in local income, $149,244,461 in local taxes, and 11,130 local jobs (see chart below).
