Beste leden,

JUDGING:
Donnie wrote “If the judge is a determining factor on entering a competition then it’s giving too much power to the judge.”. I disagree. The system only works for the very reason that Donnie objects to! If we had a prescrip- tive breed standard and tighter rules/controls on Judges there would be an even narrower selection of winners because such a system would eliminate or reduce the personal judge- ment of a Judge
Stephanie has it right!!! It’s all about E X P E R I E N C E. The more you show the more you
L E A R N. You learn to PICK YOUR JUDGES, you learn to counter those exhibitors that carry out professional fouls such as running their dog up your dogs but As a newbie I com- plained about judging, not get- ting a fair chance etc. As I gained E X P E R I E N C E I learnt which judges did/did not like my type and by MY SELECTION OF JUDGES THAT I WOULD SHOW UNDER my rate of suc- cess improved.
Yes of course their are some bad judges, face judges, dumb igno- rant judges etc. But IMHO the majority of judges endeavor to make an HONEST ASSESSMENT of the exhibits in front of them When someone moans about the judging, do you EVER hear them talk about the dog that beat them?
Could it be that the other dog was better on the day?
I’m not naive about judging. I have been published in UK “Dog World” with a study I did of Afghan Hound judging that fac- tually proved some of the less savoury aspects, such as swap- ping of appointments by small cliches of Judges. I published a book of results and awards dec- ades ago in the UK. Just looking at a judges history could be very revealing. Yes there’s some bad stuff out there.
If you have a quality Afghan Hound, if you campaign seri- ously, if you learn the intricacies of handling and R I N G C R A F T, if you present your dog to his best potential, the wins will come. Also be CONFIDENT I see too many exhibitors showing fear and nervousness in the stiffness of their body language and facial expressions. Its not that scary, believe in your dog, believe in yourself, SMILE and enjoy the challenge
Put your effort into becoming good at the craft of handling THAT is will what will bring you success. Bemoaning a system will achieve nothing.
Get out there guys, learn and practice the craft to perfection and you will do well
