Outlook
Perry (13-0) has dominated D-I in recent years, but expects a greater challenge this time from improved Chaparral (10-2), D-I newcomer Sunnyslope (10-1) and Basha (10-2). Perry’s clos- est match this season was a 5-4 win over Chaparral. Those teams are on opposite ends of the bracket and could meet in the final. Sunnyslope opened the season with a lopsided loss to Perry, but most of the season has gone by since. Sunnyslope opened the season with a lop- sided loss to Perry, but most of the season has gone by since. Perry’s dominance is reflected in a current 57-game winning streak in regular-season matches dating back to 2016. With the exception of one season in the past decade, the D-I final has matched either 1-2 seeds or 1-3 seeds. The odd year was 2014 when Perry began to flex its muscles and reached the final as a No. 15 seed.
