KBBF News
On Tuesday, October 6th, KBBF news correspondent Francisco Lozano attended a press conference where attorney Izaak Schwaiger and members
of the community presented allegations that the Sonoma County Sheriff’s deputies had beaten and tortured up to 20 inmates in the Sonoma County Main Adult Detention Facility earlier this year. Francisco was able to ask important questions that were of particular interest to KBBF’s diverse audience. Afterwards, KBBF volunteers uploaded video excerpts, some in Spanish, to KBBF’s new YouTube page, which can be found by searching “89.1KBBF”.
Congratulations
On Sunday, October 11th, our Board President Alicia Sanchez had the honor of being recognized as part of the Sebastopol Living Peace Wall, a monument in downtown Sebastopol
dedicated to notable peace
activists. Her name will
be etched into the granite
monument along with
those of other workers for
peace, including Nelson
Mandela. Alicia is most
known for organizing
Latino workers, both
industrial and agricultural,
and had the opportunity
to work alongside Cesar
Chavez and Dolores
Huerta in the United Farm
Workers. For the past five
years she has served as president of the Bilingual Broadcasting Foundation, the nonprofit organization whose sole project is to run KBBF Radio. Congratulations, Alicia!
Progressive Programming
Many KBBF volunteers could be found at the Petaluma Progressive Festival on September 27th. From serving food, to manning the KBBF table, to helping with the sound system (and getting shout-outs from the presenters!) we were widely represented at the festival. Much thanks goes to the organizers. We want to remind our audience that KBBF provides much English-language progressive programming. Every weekday from 10 AM to 11 AM you can catch Democracy Now! with Amy Goodman and Juan Gonzales. On Mondays, this is followed by Elaine B. Holtz’s Women’s Spaces. On Monday nights, tune
in to The Broken Record Radio Show from 9 PM to 11 PM. Every Tuesday at 11 AM you can listen to Economic Update with Richard Wolff. Wednesdays from 5 PM to 6 PM is The Roseland Report’s English hour. On Fridays from
6 PM to 8 PM we air Kaiya Kramer’s award-winning The Queer Life. Friday mornings from 11 AM to 11:30 you can listen to The Ring of Fire. And of course, Mondays through Thursdays from 2 PM to 3 PM is The Thom Hartman program.
Last month, we provided information about how to become an Underwriting partner with KBBF. We have a brand new email address that you can use specifically for inquires about getting your business’s (or non-proift’s) information on the air: underwriting@kbbf-fm.org.
