VOLUNTEERS NEEDED:
Caring Connections -Volunteer Visitors Seniors At Home has expanded our older adult visiting program to provide more intensive support to those seniors with a history of mental health issues. Through one-hour weekly visits, volunteers help seniors engage more fully in their communities. No previous knowledge of working with seniors is required, just an open mind and heart! Training and ongoing support will be provided. Contact Barbara at 707-303- 1510; BarbaraT@jfcs.org.

Help others with taxes ~ The Sonoma/ Napa district of the Tax-Aide program needs more volunteers to assist seniors and low and moderate-income families with preparing and e-filing their tax returns, at no cost. If you can give at least four hours of your time per week during tax season (February through mid-April), you can make a difference. www.aarp.org/taxvolunteer, or by emailing taxaide4sonomaco@yahoo. com.
Fall Prevention Coaches Needed ~ “A Matter of Balance: Managing Concerns about Falls,” an 8-week class through the Sonoma County Area Agency on Aging, is seeking volunteer coaches to facilitate the nationally acclaimed series. Please call (707) 565-5936 for more information.
On April 11, 2016, Council on Aging officially turns 50, and we want
to commemorate that milestone in a big way: by asking members of the community to submit a painting or drawing that will serve as a model for a large building banner or a mural to grace the exterior wall of our Meals on Wheels kitchen building.
The contest starts September 1, 2015, and all entries must be submitted no later than November 30, 2015. The theme for the contest is “Looking back and looking forward...50 years living better, 50 more together.”
And here’s the twist: We will choose two winners–one person age 20 or younger and one person age 60 or older.
If you are 20 years of age
or younger, please submit
a painting or drawing that
portrays looking forward 50
years. What do you think life will be like in 50 years?
If you are 60 years of age or older, please submit a painting that depicts looking back 50 years. What do you think life has been like over the last 50 years?
The two winners will have their artwork either displayed on large building banners or made into murals permanently displayed on the side of the Meals on Wheels building. (The final decision on how they will be displayed is TBD)
An open house will be held on April 11, 2016 at the offices of Council on Aging (30 Kawana Springs Rd) and submitted entries will be displayed for all to enjoy.
Please direct any questions to Alyssa Kutzer, or call at 707-525-0143 x 146 or email akutzer@councilonaging.com.
