Spend some time outside, meet fellow nature-lovers, and make a lasting difference in the health of our habitats. 9a - 2p. Please bring sturdy boots, a hat, and a water bottle. Jan 26 ~ Latino Family Overnight - Join local naturalist and educator, Irma Cuevas, to explore the rolling grassy hills and shady woodlands as you use all of your senses to discover life in the forests and meadows. In the evening, we’ll sharing a campfire. The next morning will explore Turtle Pond. Sleep in a tent or in the Bechtel House bunk beds. This overnight includes a moderate hike of 1-3 miles at a slow pace. Dinner and breakfast will be provided, as well as any camping gear you may need. Space is limited. 12p - 12p. $50 per family. MUST REGISTER.
Jan 26 ~ Hike to Double Ponds and Martin Creek - Exclusively for Pepperwood Members. A special expedition with Pepperwood’s Wildlife Specialist, Steven Hammerich who will lead us on an adventurous off-trail hike to the north end of the preserve—starting at Double Ponds, then traversing to Strebel Homestead, and through Martin Creek. Bring a picnic lunch to enjoy on a hilltop with majestic views of the neighboring valleys and mountains. Feb 9 ~ Public Hike - Join us for fun, exercise, and learning! Explore Pepperwood’s forests and grasslands as you learn about animals, plants, natural history, and the ecological management of our 3,200 acre preserve. See how our landscapes were impacted by fire, and find out what Pepperwood is doing to aid in recovery at our preserve and beyond. This is a moderate to strenuous hike of 3-4 miles. Jan 24 ~ 4th Thursday Trail Crew ~ Work includes bridge and step construction, installing signs, clearing, lifting, carrying and hiking. Help Sugarloaf with trail restoration work. Bring gloves, hat, and water that you can take with you while working. Wear long pants, boots or sturdy shoes and sunscreen. Poison oak is present. Those under 18 years old must be accompanied by a responsible adult. We will provide tools, food and beverages.
