Service Groups work together to Celebrate Windsor Heritage
The Windsor Kiwanis and the Windsor Odd Fellows will be working together to put on 2 events that celebrate Windsor’s heritage. Saturday, May 6th, the Windsor Kiwanis will be starting the day by hosting the Annual Windsor Parade. This year’s theme is, Happy Birthday Windsor – Cheers
to 25 Years. The Parade starts at 10 am at Windsor High School and travels downtown and along the Town Green. Almost every child in town is marching with their school, their dance group, their band or their athletic teams, and all the parents are running a long side taking pictures. Last year was the rst year the Windsor Odd Fellows resurrected the Windsor Day Festival and citizens of Windsor are sure happy about that. The Festival after the Parade was missed for many years and now it’s back with local food booths, beer & wine, crafts and live music with the Beatles Flashback Band. Local band, The Renovators will be the opening act. The Oddfellows also have a classic car show planned with lots of fun, games for kids and dancing for the whole family. The Festival is on the Town Green starting at 11am until 3pm. Visit kiwaniswindsor.org if you would like to be in the parade and oddfellowswindsor.org if you are interested in the Festival.
May is National Older Americans Month and the Market has joined with the Windsor Senior Advisory Commission, the Windsor Senior Center and many local businesses to o er something special to “Seniors” for the month of May. Did you know that there are 985 citizens in Windsor over 80 and 40 percent of those live alone without daily social contact other than their Wheels on Wheels delivery. Many of the local groups in town are working to gather volunteers for home visits of these isolated older Americans during the month of May. You can contact the Windsor Service Alliance or the Windsor Senior Center to do your part to help. The Farmers Market will be o ering 2 “Golden Bucks” to all older Americans over 65 who come to Market on Sundays in May. Visit the Market Information Table for your Golden Bucks.
Absolutely, Fabulously 10!
“Together we did what few small towns can do. We built a theater from the ground up.”

A 501(c)(3) non-pro t organization, CPAC was also envisioned a new economic stream into our downtown core that would “go beyond dollars”
to bring our diverse community together while providing creative learning opportunities for young people who were budding artists, musicians, writers and actors and/or who found ful llment through the priceless learning experience of working behind the scenes.
The Windsor Farmers Market will be hosting Mother’s Day on Sunday, May 14th, 10-1 pm on the Town Green. The Markets bakeries, BurtoNZ Bakery, Red Bird Bakery, Cookie...take a bite! And Grizzly Bear To ee will be hosting a cookie and tea tasting with teas from Market tea merchant, Mark from Tea & Trumpets. Bring all the important ladies in your family for brunch in the park and tea and cookies for dessert.
Soon, however, the opportunity arose to purchase and renovate a much larger building at 209 Cloverdale Boulevard. With the City facilitating Redevelopment funding, Mary Ann “calling in every chip” she could, the unswerving focus of the Board, construction expert Roger Quintin leading
the extensive remodeling process plus big-hearted donations of money and materials – paired with the hard work of a dedicated team of onsite volunteers- the new stage, sound room, backstage and lobby were completed. (Not to mention wires run, walls painted, carpet laid, seats installed, etc., etc.) Result: The fabulous 99-seat Cloverdale Performing Arts Center came alive!
The Market will be hosting Kidz Day on the Farm on Sunday, May 21st, 10-1 pm. The Town Green will be full of farming, planting and cooking fun with the Corn Bin for toddlers, Country Games, Kidz Dig It Cooking Classes from 11-12 and free Balloon sculptures with Oops the Clown.
Yavé Guzman, who became CPAC’s Artistic Director upon Jim’s retirement in 2014, acquired an interest in theater at age 12. Stephen Cannon, his teacher at Washington Middle School, and Anne Boone, his drama teacher Cloverdale High School, encouraged Yavé to explore his passion. During college, a meeting with Jim de Priest resulted in his becoming an actor in CPAC’s rst play.
Local youth bands will be playing and in between sing-a-longs with Hank. Events with Sole will be hosting their Annual Windsor Half Marathon on the same day, May 21st. The racers are o and running by 8:30 am and then the Market Vendors move in and set up shop for all Marathon families, guests and runners to enjoy when they return. Fresh lemonade and juices to replenish the moisture, fermented veggies to keep a strong gut and healthy meats, fruits and veggies to stay strong.
A creative young man of artistic passion combined with intellect, warmth and common sense, it’s clear Yavé understands the profound signi cance of live theater to professionals, whether on stage or backstage, as well as to their audiences.
Eat like a King at the Windsor Rotary Lobster Feed on Saturday, May 20th at 4 pm. The event will be held at the Windsor Boys and Girls Club, 9640 Brooks Rd. There will be local Beer and Wine Tastings, Live and silent auctions and lots of live music. Visit windsorrotary.org for tickets.

Over the next decade, we’ll each play a vital role in CPAC’s continued success. For, as fabled acting coach Viola Spolin reminded us long ago: “Without an audience there is no theater.”
So begins the brochure for the 2017 season of the Cloverdale Performing Arts Center (CPAC) which also marks it’s AB FAB 10th Anniversary of presenting “live theater, music, and the literary arts.”
CPAC’s original champion was long-time City Council Member Mary Ann Brigham who has served on its Board of Directors since its inception. In the mid-2000s, her bold concept of a multi-dimensional theatre experience was realized through her business savvy and drive, partnered with exceptional talents, knowledge and skills of volunteers plus donors’ generosity.
A ectionately known as Sonoma County’s “godfather of the theater”, the late, great Jim de Priest became CPAC’s rst Artistic Director with the historic Grange building providing the venue for early productions.
So here we are, celebrating CPAC’s ABFAB 10th Anniversary!
Join us at the gala: Sat., May 13th, starting 5:30 pm, at CPAC, 209 No. Cloverdale Blvd. Buy tix online at cloverdaleperformingarts.com; The Mail Center, Etc., 207-A No. Cloverdale Blvd.; or at CPAC before the event (if tix are still available!).
