FILM: When I think of May, the rst thing that pops up in my mind is Mother’s Day. I am very fortunate that my mom loves movies almost as

much as I do so our tradition is to
go to a movie on Mother’s Day. This Mother’s Day, Goldie Hawn will
star in her rst movie in 15 years! It’s called “Snatched”. It also stars Amy Schumer who hit a home run last
year with “Trainwreck”. I’m a huge Goldie Hawn fan so I’m very excited. Opening May 5th is “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2” starring Chris Pratt
Goldie Hawn, Amy Schumer in “Snatched” and Zoe Saldana with a cameo by Kurt Russell. The original did so well this sequel will smash records. Also opening May 5th is “Three Generations” starring Susan Sarandon, Elle Fanning and Naomi Watts. Remember to bring your Kleenex! Opening May 19th is “Alien: Covenant” starring Michael Fassbender and directed by Ridley Scott. Fans of the “Alien” franchise will no doubt be going to see this opening night. Opening May 26th are “Baywatch” and “Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell
No Tales”. “Pirates” is the most successful franchise in movie history so be prepared for long lines. With the recent disappointment of “CHIPS” I predict that “Baywatch” will fail miserably up against the new “Pirates” lm.
The San Francisco Film Festival recently ended and one of the highlights was the tribute to Ethan Hawke. It’s hard to believe how many amazing movies he has made. Another highlight was the premiere of “People You May Know” starring musician Usher Raymond. Usher plays himself which is hard to do. Another amazing movie that premiered during the festival was “Walking Out” starring Matt Bomer. If you missed “The Promise” or “Gifted” last month, you still have a chance since they are still playing in theaters.
THEATER: This is a fun lled month at the theater. The North Bay premiere of “Tarzan” opens at Spreckels May 5th and closes May 21. Directed by Gene Abravaya and David L. The Shelton Theater in San Francisco continues with “Dog Sees God: Confessions of a Teenage Blockhead”. Charlie Brown and Snoopy fans will love this show. It closes May 20th. Call 415 577-7633 for tickets.
The Curran in San Francisco continues with “The Encounter”. This show is one of the most immersive theater pieces ever created. Directed and performed by Simon McBurney, this solo performance traces a journey into the depths
of the Amazon rainforest, using 3D audio technology to build an intimate and shifting world of sound. Go to the Curran’s website for more information.
