WOOD cont’d from page 14
We must become stewards of rewood fuel and take it upon ourselves to improve our own lot. There is simply no one else to do it.
The NFA proudly speaks for rewood on its merits alone:
• Renewable • Responsible • Reliable
• Simple
• Inexpensive
• Available to millions
• Supports local economy • Enjoyable
What the NFA is doing to help
• We bring a pro- rewood voice to controversies and criticism of rewood
• We monitor and report on rewood and wood-burning related legislation
• We educate the public on proper rewood selection, storage and burning
practices
Upcoming projects include e orts to hold our members accountable, including a resource for consumers to rate their rewood vendors online.
The searchable database will showcase NFA members and others with high ratings while discouraging the dodgy practices of “weekend warriors.”
The NFA needs the support of consumers and rewood professionals alike. Our mission is to improve both the image and experience of burning wood to ensure that it remains relevant and prominent in any discussion or debate surrounding renewable resources and sustainable fuels.

It’s a Toilet, Not a Trash Can
Toilets are only meant for one activity, and you know what we are talking about. When the wrong thing is flushed, results can include costly backups on your own property or problems in our sanitary sewer system and lift stations. That is why it is so important to treat toilets properly and flush only your personal contributions and 2 ply toilet paper to the water reclamation facility.
The following items should never be ushed:
• Baby wipes and diapers • Rags and towels
• Cotton swabs
• Syringes
• Candy and other food wrappers • Clothing labels
• Cleaning sponges
• Toys
• Plastic items of any description
• Aquarium gravel or kitty litter
• Rubber items such as latex gloves • Cigarette butts
• Sanitary napkins
• Hair
• Underwear
• Disposable toilet brushes
But the product is labeled ‘Flushable’?
The problem with products labeled ‘flushable’ is that they do not disperse
or break apart after being flushed. While it might actually flush, it does not break down once it is in our sanitary sewer system. As these non-dispersible items accumulate in the sewer pipe, they hinder the flow and eventually cause blockages that can lead to sanitary sewer backups or overflows. These backups are harmful the environment and costly for homeowners and utilities.
