Musical Mondays at the Petaluma Historic Library & Museum continue
in April with the second half of the Passion and Joy of J.S. Bach series. This series of lectures explores Bach’s greatest masterworks through fascinating lectures with live musical performances featuring some of the most celebrated musicians in Sonoma County, including Green Music Center director Bob Worth.
Adobe Plaque Mystery
If this were a Nancy Drew novel, the title would be “The Case of the Missing Marker.” Some of us wondered whatever happened to the Petaluma Adobe bronze plaque on Old Redwood Hwy. near Adobe Rd. The state historic marker #18 described the history of General Mariano Vallejo’s Petaluma Adobe. Many of us feared the bronze plaque was too tempting a prize, and taken by vandals. According to my contact Jorge Moreno at California State Parks’ communications o ce, the old marker was removed with permission from the authorities in 2006. The plate was updated and moved to replaced with a new one, as the old one at Vallejo’s Adobe SHP on the eastern edge of Petaluma. Case solved.
PGrove’s Time Capsule
Now is the time to bring your ephemera to JavAmore Café for the 50 year time capsule. “We want to capture what is happening right now, in 2017-2018 —nothing older than a year,” says Burr Wilson. As you select your item, keep your grandchildren in mind. Fifty years from now, your one-page letter to your descendants or future residents will tell them your thoughts about life in Sonoma County today and Penngrove in particular. Are you concerned about the SMART train, the res, cannabis licensing and growing, Trump or clean water? Hmmm, or do you simply love living here? State your thoughts to your grandchildren and our descendants and say, “how’s it going now, have you carried on with it all?” Include a labeled photo of a grandchild, who may be surprised to see it unearthed in 50 years.
There couldn’t be more appealing spokespersons for cannabis cultivation than Alexa Wall and her husband Curtis. Enthusiastic and highly educated, Alexa holds a B.S. in Marine and Freshwater Biology from UT Austin, and a M.S. in Environmental Management from USF. Curtis has a business degree in Entrepreneurship and Innovation from USF. They also have attended numerous cannabis conferences both in and out of the state.
Part Two, The Great Keyboard Works, will include Bach, the Italian: The Concertos (April 2), Bach, the Francophile: French Suites and French Overture (April 9), The Encyclopedic Mind and The Well-Tempered Clavier (April 16), Opus 1: The Partita in Bb Major (April 23), and The Goldberg Variations (April 30.)
This series is presented by Kayleen Asbo, Ph.D., who is “a passionate scholar: a cultural historian, musician, writer and teacher who weaves myth, music, psychology, history and art with experiential learning.” She has an incredible pedigree, but is more than just extremely knowledgeable; she is an absolute pleasure to listen to, as we learned while attending the museum’s recent New Year’s Eve Concert.
Cinnabar Theater presents Amadeus from April 6 – 15. “This provocative work weaves a confrontation between mediocrity and genius into a tale of breathtaking dramatic power. In the court of the Austrian Emperor Josef, Antonio Salieri is the established composer. Enter the greatest musical genius of all time: Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. Salieri has given himself to God so that he might realize his sole ambition: to be a great composer. Mozart is a foul- mouthed, graceless oaf who has that which is beyond Salieri’s envious grasp: Genius.” Cinnabartheater.com for more info.

Cinnabar’s Young Rep program will hold their annual fundraiser at the Petaluma campus of the SRJC on Sat, April 14, starting at 6 p.m. “All proceeds will be put back into the program, through scholarships, classes and camps, and perhaps even new equipment and resources to make our productions more entertaining and professional than ever. Young Rep actors and instructors will perform favorite Broadway hits from timeless classics to new favorites. Our directors are perfecting a lively program to showcase the Cinnabar talent in fresh performances and heart-felt personal stories.” Included in the ticket price are libations and a variety of food and sweets. There will also be exciting Broadway-themed auction items.
Their 15 acre Penngrove property is zoned Diverse Ag (DA). They are applying for a half acre cultivation, known as Luma California. At present, they are 6 months into waiting for a permit.
You know that spring is in full swing, with summer just around the corner, when we starting talking about the Butter & Egg Days Parade festivities. This year’s theme, “A Parade is Hatched,” celebrates the 100th anniversary of National Egg Day and the 1st Egg Day Parade, held back in 1918. “Petaluma’s National Egg Day Parade was featured in newsreels, where oats with giant chickens boasted that Petaluma, home to six million hens laying 600 million eggs and Petaluma was proclaimed as the ‘Egg Basket of the World!’.”
Alexa serves as the Sonoma County Growers Alliance board chair. Curtis has just returned from a ve-day soil food web course taught by renowned soil microbiologist Dr. Elaine Ingham.
Festivities kick o on Sat, April 28, at 8 a.m. with the Petaluma Lion’s Club breakfast, held in the parking lot across from Putnam Plaza. The Petaluma Egg Farm’s Cutest Chick Contest will begin
The plan includes a 10,000 sq. ft. outdoor garden and a 10,000 sq. ft. greenhouse. When natural sun isn’t enough for plant health, an electric cover will pull over the greenhouse to prevent light pollution when LED supplemental lights are used. They are investing now in sustainable farming techniques such as drip irrigation, dehumidi cation with water recapture systems, solar array designs, rain catchment and more.

In 2014 they found a small indoor commercial space outside of Petaluma, and grew there until they purchased their property in 2017.
If you want to enjoy downtown in a calmer mode, you won’t want to miss the Spring Antique Faire, which is also sponsored by the Petaluma Downtown Association and held the day after B&E Day, on Sun, April 29, from 8 a.m.
to 4 p.m. Even when we don’t purchase anything, we always enjoy walking along the closed downtown streets, perusing through various sundries, while enjoying food and drink from a plethora of vendors. However, if you are looking to add something new (to you) to your kitchen décor, backyard garden, or maybe a nice Persian rug to your hallway, this is de nitely the event for you.
As of mid-March, permit applications to Sonoma County totaled just over 41 acres of land, she noted, with a strict cap of one acre total per operation. Residents will want to know “multi-acre grows are not even possible,” said Alexa.

“Every grower has their method,” said Alexa. “Some use very simple plastic hoop covers, but we want an advanced greenhouse with a better controlled environment.”
“We hope the outdoor permit comes soon in time to plant our garden this season,” said Alexa. The greenhouse project is a conditional use permit and still in process.
