P. 2

Dear Readers,
There are times when a simple, positive message is all we want to hear. Negativity, fear, anger, resentment...you name it...pervades news of the world and I believe also contributes to generating more misery.
Obviously the Gazette does not focus on just positive news. There’s no way
to inspire people to be involved in their communities without a Call to Action. Homeless camps, environmental hazards, social injustice, elections, all need our attention. How can we present this in ways that inspires excitement instead of loathing?
In among the outrage we try to showcase people who are excelling at what they do...to get readers excited about a topic they never knew about before... to offer up a calendar of things to do that is so comprehensive people have no excuses for staying home being bored.
Since spring equinox happens in March, we all tend to feel the elation that comes with longer days. Even if it’s still cold at night, the sun warms us, buds are swelling on trees, some are already leafing out, birds are passing through on their northern migration...how can we not feel elated that life brings us such treasures to enjoy every day? All we have to do is look up from our work to see the light of day and joy that can bring.
One of the many aspects of print media I enjoy is that we can read randomly
- flip pages - front - middle - 3/4 of the way through, back to the front...skip around to see what catches our attention. It’s a non-linear medium. You wait for nothing. People tell me they love to hold it in their hands. The tactile sensation of touching paper, hearing the rustle of pages turning, reading at the breakfast table, in bed, on a chair in the garden. No reflections off the page with uncoated paper. Reassurance that when you are finished reading you can recycle the paper even into a worm bin. There’s comfort in these pages.
We’re always happy to hear from readers, so keep letting us know what’s on your minds. We can’t fit all Letters, Opinion pieces ,and articles than we can fit on these 72 pages, so if you are inclined, please visit our website. We also post all month long as news, events, issues we need to pay attention to come our way. This is a 7 day a week community resource.
We hope you enjoy this year’s Gardeners Resource Guide if you love to garden, and please use to support Sonoma County businesses! THANK YOU!
