There are many issues that we are facing: Homelessness, climate change,
Now Airing The Pocho Live Show: KBBF welcomes The Pocho Live Show. The hour-long cultural and political dscussion program, which also features local music and community interviews, invites audiences to experience “life through the eyes of Pocho1 and iWill and their dope homies.” It airs every Tuesday from 7pm to 8pm as well as streaming on social media through @ thepocholiveshow.
Listen Live Online: Click over to KBBF’s updated website at https://kbbf. org/. There you will find resources about our programs, upcoming events, and immigration information, in Spanish and in English. Also, there is a link to Listen Live at the top of every page, allowing you to stream our programming through your device.
Celebración del Arte: Come by 1700 Corby Avenue on July 29th to take part in the station’s ARTStravaganza. Local artists will lead hand-on activities and projects with families, inspiring their imaginations. Various Sonoma County nonprofit organizations will be onsite with community information and a visit by the Sonoma County Library’s bookmobile is planned. The festivities are slated to go from 1pm to 4pm, indoors and out. Admission to the event is free and there will be food and beverages available to purchase.
Send Your Books to KBBF: In preparation for ARTStravaganza, KBBF is accepting donations of bilingual books in good condition. The books will be part of a giveaway to children on the day of the event. For more information about donating, contact the station at (707) 545-8833.
Board of Directors News: The Board of Directors at KBBF welcomes two new members--Madonna Cruz, a Native American community activist and Albert Wahrhaftig, a retired Sonoma State professor. They bring a wealth
of experience and the desire to help the community by serving on the KBBF board. They believe the station is essential for providing much-needed information during these difficult times.
Board Meeting Summer Schedule: This summer, the Bilingual Broadcasting Foundation and KBBF meet the third Thursday of the month at 6pm. The regular meeting schedule resumes in October. Anyone can attend the meetings, which are at the station’s office at 1700 Corby Avenue, Suite B, in Santa Rosa.
Community Action: The Community Action Coalition of Sonoma County continues to meet every Tuesday night at 6pm at the Peace and Justice Center, which is at 467 Sebastopol Avenue, in SR. This group includes SRJC students as well as anyone from the public who is interested in issues affecting minority populations in Sonoma County. As part of their actions, the members run a booth at the Wednesday night market in the Free Speech Area, situated at Fourth and B Streets. Throughout the summer, members of CAC will be present at the booth from 5pm to 8pm to continue the Recall Sheriff Freitas campaign. Find out more at the group’s Facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/ actioncoalitionofsonomacounty/.
Bilingual Theater in the Open Air: The Imaginists are a theater collective that presents original work. STOP THAT SHOW is their new piece for their ninth annual bilingual bicycle-powered summer tour. In this comedy, the players begin to present Horacio Quiroga’s “Juan Darién,” only to be interrupted, censored, and silenced during their performance. The work tackles current political issues, but with a satirical tone that entertains children and adults alike. No tickets are required, but the ensemble requests a donation.
A kickoff party to raise funds takes place on July 14th, from 7pm to 9pm at
461 Sebastopol Avenue in SR. The season runs in various community parks throughout the summer. INFO: The Imaginists at (707) 528-7554.
Volunteers Welcome: Community involvement is a wonderful experience! Share your talents and learn something new by volunteering at KBBF, your bilingual community radio station. Find out more by calling the station at (707) 545-8833 or emailing us at info@KBBF-fm.org, attention Judy.
need for disaster preparedness, pollution, water and food shortage, etc. As
an individual it appears hopeless, overwhelming, daunting at best. But as a member of a church congregation or a service club such as Rotary, Lions or Odd Fellows, maybe not.

Our Rotary club, the Rotary Club
of Sebastopol Sunrise, prepares
bag lunches for approximately forty homeless individuals every Wednesday morning. We have handed out laundry vouchers. We created the West County Homeless Advocates to address the needs of the underserved by partnering with church members and other concerned West County residents. Sebastopol City Council members, Sebastopol Police, a Sonoma County Supervisor have attended our meetings. We meet at the Sebastopol Area Senior Center, at 167 North High Street, Sebastopol from 6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. one Monday of the month. Why not join us?
Our motto is to encourage and inspire each other to be informed and courageous. We inspire each other to be more open hearted, generous, serving and responsible for ourselves and others. We want to build lasting friendships and enduring partnerships. We share governmental budgetary news, work to supply immediate needs to homeless (food, tarps, tents, sleeping bags, etc.), support social services to homeless, including medical services and counselling, work to obtain shelters/alternative housing for the homeless and support existing and emerging governmental and related nonpro t initiatives. To learn more about West County Homeless Advocates, email richard@richardruge.com and ask to be included in the group’s email distribution list.
The point is together we can do a lot. There are so many worthwhile activities to join. Like DailyActs (dailyacts.org), the Sebastopol Area Time Bank (sebastopolarea.timebanks.org), the Sebastopol Area Senior Center (sebastopolseniorcenter.org), Rotary, Lions, etc.
Do something. Form new friendships and partnerships. Serve somebody. Be inspired by others and be inspirational. Amaze yourself! It feels great. There is nothing that focused self and communal e ort cannot achieve. What better way to spend the rest of our lives.
My wife and I were in Bodega Bay recently watching a large bird soar high without once apping its wings. If we commit to service, we too can rise so high that we can contribute without once apping our wings.
