As I write this the Summer Solstice nears, and the early sunrise and longer daylight hours encourage us to be outside. The majestic redwoods around my airy cyber-hut are outlined by clear blue skies. The grads have graduated, Father’s Day meets with the rst Day of
It has been a fun lled start of summer after a seemingly wet, long and harsh winter. The HOA has been on top of their game with all of their fun lled events. The Father’s Day Pancake Breakfast was a terri c way to start o the day and was a packed house. Mark your calendars for the Hamburger/Hot dog night on Sat, July 1st from 4pm-9pm. .
Pee Wee Golf A shoutout goes out to Linda Selhorn’s leadership over the last few years in making Pee Wee Golf a source of pride and Caren Wadley for keeping it open for all the summer kids to enjoy. What a big change. Your hard work is noticed and appreciated. Goes to show when you get the right people to manage it who care about this Community then good things start to happen. Thank you for all your e orts and showing the love. Bravo!
Fire in RN Last week there was trouble in our Community garden. A branch fell onto two PG&E lines and ignited a re. There were quite a few blazes in total. One on the side of a redwood tree, another on a patch of the garden’s tool shed and another on the side of a Bay tree. The ames were
20-30 feet high. The Bay tree ignited immediately. A huge thanks to all the folks involved in risking their lives to put this re out. I was not there to see
it, but I understand there were 4-5 neighbors putting it out with hoses, re extinguishers and blankets. A few good Samaritans ghting these blazes were Donavan Smandra and Pip Marquez De La Plata of Canyon 6. By the time the Fire Dept showed up the blazes were extinguished. PG&E needs to be held accountable and must check and replace old lines every year. This could have been avoided if PG&E did their due diligence. This could have been a serious re. My understanding being that there was a re in this exact spot a few years ago.
Summer and many weddings are planned.

Friends of Rio Nido Thanks to (FRN) another VERY successful Community Cleanup took place in the front parking lot of the RNR this month. Raymond’s Bakery continues to have Friday Pizza Nights, with wonderful live music. Remember Cazadero Supply’s 1st Saturday 15% Discount Day, with many great items for your home, garden and vehicle projects. The Duncan’s Mills General Store, ably run by Cazaderans Darryl and Justine, has delicious made-on-site ‘Cowboy Jerky’ and other smoked meats and sh. Fresh produce, everyday groceries and many specials such as Caz Gal’s Glycerine soaps, entice local and visitor alike. The Cazadero General Store is also now run by Justine and Darryl and is very handy for daily groceries and great sandwiches! Do check out the new downtown shop ‘Caz Central’ for wonderful handmade items created by your neighbors!

RN Sign Update As I have mentioned before, we are getting a second RN Sign to be placed on River Road with the Winky Moon. This has been years in the making and it is on its merry way. SERIOUSLY, it really is! Currently FRN is working with the County to schedule a short lane closure to put up the sign. A big thank you goes out to Ingrid Emming for all her hard work and perseverance.
Klash is the RN Pet of the Month. He is a bona de hero.

A very fascinating book has recently caught my eye: “Sacred Sonoma”
by Beth Winegarner. Not a ‘woo-woo’ book at all! I quote page #141 re our Austin Creek area. “Cazadero, like many places among the redwoods and fog
is full of ghost stories. One day in 1893 the Northwest Paci c Railroad was running a train, led by engine #9,to bring tourists through a town called Ingram to Cazadero. Austin Creek was ooding and the train got trapped near the outpost known as Elim Grove. The train bridge gave way, toppling one of the cars into the raging creek. Seven men died, but only 6 bodies were recovered immediately. Later an Indian man came to town accompanied by his dogs, heard the news of the lost man and said that he could nd the missing body.
He went down top the creek, lit a candle, placed to on a shingle and set it out onto the water. It oated downstream for about a mile, then the shingle started spinning, the candle went out and the dogs began to bark. The Indian suggested that the townsfolk dig there; when they did so, they found the body of the lost man. Today residents and visitors alike have reported feeling negative spiritual energy from certain pools fed by Austin Creek and tributaries.”.
