February is upon us: Its amazing how time flies! Its February already. How did that happen? January was a very wet and rainy month with some strong showers and wind that really packed a punch.
February is the month for lovers and is my favorite month out of the year. If you are making plans for V-Day dinner out be sure to get your reservations in asap! Happy Valentines Day!
New Business in Town: Our little hamlet has a new biz in town, Postal Outlet Plus moved from Guerneville to Rio Nido last month. They offer a wide range of services including mailboxes, fax, email, notary services, Fed- Ex, etc. Super nice people and convenient for those of us that don't want to drive into Guerneville! They actually moved into RN's original post office space at the start of Canyon 7 next to the RN Fountain in Rio Nido. Let's give them a warm welcome!
MAC Meetings: The MAC meetings need your attendance! The next meeting is scheduled for February 20th in Monte Rio. Google "River Mac" for details. We need RN locals to attend if we want change and much- needed services. Update on RN Post Office: Please be patient......FRN is awaiting a formal meeting to be held in the very near future with the powers that be. Stay tuned.......
Sweetwater Springs: FRN is looking for someone to be on the Sweetwater Springs Committee to represent RN. If you are interested contact: frn@RioNido.net
Abandoned Cars & RV's: It seems that every winter we are faced with an influx of people abandoning their broken down dilapidated RVs and jalopies. This creates a blight on our bourgeoning community and is unacceptable. They have to move to another spot every 72 hours and can’t stay in the same spot. Please be diligent and call the CHP at 707 588-1400 to have RV's and abandoned vehicles tagged and towed. Every call makes a difference and moves the process along more expeditiously! - Thank you!
In Talks: The talk around town
is that we are in discussions about having a possible EV Charging Station in the future so keep reading our Column for updates.
I have been viewing the large redwoods shrouded in fog outside of my cozy cyber-hut and hearing a loud, persistent ‘hoot, hoot’ from an owl or two! Nice to see Austin Creek flowing with our much-needed water. The recent rains have been great, as long as we don’t receive 4 or five heavy days in a row, the earth will absorb the rain and will be less apt to flood!
Interesting thoughts - as the 2020 Census is beginning, I wonder how many folks actually live here? I have read a variety of numbers, but they all seem too low. Does anyone know the answer? Please call me at 632 5545 or email mayawrld@sonic.net as I am very curious re: this statistic.
March will herald the monthly meetings of the Cazadero Community Club-usually held on 1st Tuesday, 7 p.m. at Firehall #1. Due to the Primary election on the 4th, I believe that the meeting will be on March 11th. Please attend and help your neighbors plan events which benefit the entire community.
Re: the Primary, please do vote! I will never tell you who or what to support, but it is imperative that you participate. Local issues & positions are especially crucial as there are few registered voters in many of our districts.
Montgomery Elementary students will focus a portion of their studies on Abraham Lincoln, learning about his life and his presidency. Students also get an opportunity to learn about many other presidents who have greatly served our country. This coincides with observing the holidays of Lincoln’s Birthday and President’s Day. Montgomery students hit a big milestone in their school year and get to celebrate the 100th day of school. This is always a day that students look forward to, and each class has their own way of celebrating. Students will also get to celebrate Valentine’s Day and have an opportunity to show their appreciation of their classmates.
RN Pet of the Month: Many of you know Jesse James the Rotty. He has resided in RN his entire life and most recently just turned 11 years young. He is a sweet and docile boy who loves his life here in RN. He
