Are We All Crabby Yet? Yes, Finally as the Dungeness Crab season for Sports Fishing opened on time. Lots of sweet delicious Dungeness crab are filling their pots and our bellies! Sports Fisherman have lined up at Westside Boat dock to enjoy the flat ocean waters while dropping & pulling their pots. The smiles have been many as the crab is plentiful and meaty. Melting butter, boiling salted water and the cracking of shells is everywhere in the campgrounds and homes.
Celebrating A Local Fisherman Dick Ogg of Bodega Bay was just honored by National Fisherman magazine for his tireless work addressing marine entanglement. He stated regarding the delay of the commercial season opener
to November 23, 2019 “It was a difficult decision, but it shows we’re all in this together,” said Ogg, who is being recognized this year in part for being a founding member of the California Dungeness Crab Fishing Gear Working Group that has worked for years to minimize the fleet’s interactions with marine mammals.

Speaking of special people, I would like to recognize...
Her laughter brought joyful smiles. Like her nickname suggests, she was always “Glo”wing. She had such a powerful and direct impact on so many. Nothing compared to her lovingly long and warm embrace. She had the “best hugs in the Universe,” was the popular vote - and “her
Gloria “Glo” Molica, a heartbeat of Bodega who passed on October 17 at age 67 from Alzheimer’s disease. Her presence will be greatly missed. On November 17, I had the privilege to come together with the community as we celebrated her life by sharing memories and reflecting on what a bright light she was.
Surviving Bodega Bay Businesses Need You! Yes, the Locals make all the difference during the slow winter months. Many Bodega Bay businesses suffered major losses during the power outage and evacuation. Yes, there was some insurance coverage but to many restaurants dismay, the coverage was inadequate. Food spoilage, lack of revenue and employee salaries took most of the “rainy day savings” reserved for the slow season away.
heart was as big as her hugs.” She really cared for people with authentic enthusiasm. Not only would she hug you with her body and soul, but she could hug your heart with her passion- filled, freshly homemade food.

Glo was an amazing nurse, a genuinely loved
and respected FNP by everyone who experienced her compassionate care. She also served as the Bodega Volunteer Fire Department’s Medical Captain
for 18 years and then board president. She had countless talents and used her gifted intelligence to accomplish a great deal.
So Why Did We Have To Evacuate? Some residents of Bodega Bay wondered why we had to lose power and evacuate since we were so far away from the fire? Bodega Bay CERT held a community discussion to understand. Supervisor Lynda Hopkins, Deputy Jason Pasero, Fire Captain Justin Fox, Assistant Chief Steve Herzberg, Bodega Bay CERT Director Dewey Kribs and CHP Sean Laurie joined us to provide key information and answers to the lingering question on why the power outage and mandatory evacuation.
She was surrounded by a caring community who loved her more than words can describe. She lived at the Bodega Pastures for over 40 years with her dearly beloved husband, Laird Sutton. They were great parents, to more than just their own - welcoming, supportive and non-judgemental. They had a relationship to be admired.
“Death is our dancing partner... and the dance is beautiful.”
My brother lost his mother the morning before Glo’s memorial, about five weeks before she would’ve had her first grandchild. Glo was even going to have a great-grandchild. My mother also would’ve loved to have met her grandchildren, yet here I am two years later, expecting a baby girl. Without death, there would be no life. Our existence is based on renewal and rebirth. I encourage us all to honor each transition with recognition and grace. Allow grief and embrace change, whatever it means to you
THE ANSWER – 20 Fire Models projected the fire to cross Hwy 101 throwing embers to ignite the Russian River area and hills behind Bodega Bay.
As Laird says, at “the bottom of everything is love.” He shared that the Spirit is part of who we are, as “we live in a multi-dimensional world” and how grateful he is that “we are all part of a vast interconnected existence.” In Glo’s final hours, she actually hummed along with the Beatles tune “Here Comes the Sun” and as she transitioned, Laird saw a bright yellow light glowing around her head - she was free at last.
Captain Fox shared he was on Coleman Valley Road and saw several downed power lines that would have started fires had they been energized. With the high wind gusts and low humidity down to 4, it was a very dangerous combination. All agreed that going forward, a better explanation of why a town so far away needs to be evacuated be provided to get more to obey the order.
