P. 30

Happy April or is it? Last year we had floods, fires, evacuations and extended power outages. Now Covid-19. I was hoping this was a bad April Fool’s joke. Unfortunately not. Thankfully as a Community we are always united. Several events that have cancelled due to this virus, Russian River Sisters monthly Bingo, Monte Rio’s Monday Supper Club, Chamber of Commerce, Vine and Dine. The Russian River Senior Center will be closed for an undetermined period of time. They will be checking messages and providing services as possible. Please call if you need them for anything.
Although my cozy cyber-hut is currently shuttered due to technical problems, the large redwoods outside remain majestic and still.
Here is a message from the Chamber: We are closely monitoring the current Coronavirus situation and want you to know that we are doing everything possible to ensure that our operations continue to work smoothly and that our staff and visitors feel safe and comfortable.
That said I will try to steer you to local businesses that are open and providing us all with the opportunity to buy groceries, fuel, medications, hardware and restaurants with take-out service. Please buy music from local musicians; online if necessary. Both the Cazadero and Duncan Mills general stores are open with everyday groceries and specialty items including locally produced wine, meats, cheeses and breads. Gold Coast Coffee and Bakery has coffee beans and drinks and offers take-out baked items.
Above all, it is our overarching goal to help minimize any risks to our community and guests. We will do our very best to keep you informed and updated as details present themselves.
Check with Cape Fear Cafe regarding their take-out policy. Cazadero Supply is open with a great assortment of items for your current home, garden and vehicular projects. Banks, pharmacies and post offices are open.
Please keep enjoying our delightful community businesses so that we can make sure that owners and employees maintain the ability to thrive. We have rebounded from floods, fires and economic setbacks and will continue to support one another through yet another dramatic occurrence.
All Sonoma County schools are closed and may not reopen this semester. All libraries are also closed but do offer online books, etc. The wonderful Sonoma County free bookmobile is not on the road.
Never Forget: WE ARE BETTER TOGETHER! Let’s stay informed, connected and support one another. Please be safe - Karin Moss
Local churches are not open and the Russian River Jewish Community Passover Seder has been cancelled. The steering committee wishes you all a peaceful and a healthy Passover!
Everyone appreciates your understanding during this difficult time.
The monthly meetings of the Cazadero Community Club, usually held
on the first Tuesday of the month at 7:00 pm at the Fire Hall #1, are currently cancelled. The Caz Club is a non-profit organization that raises money from the Old Time BBQ, Crafts Fair, Bingo and other events, to support and provide monies for equipment for the Cazadero Volunteer Fire Dept. and funding for special programs for the Montgomery Elementary School. We also give out two to four scholarships, annually, to El Molino High School seniors, who reside in Cazadero. Yearly membership dues are only $15 for individuals or $25 for families. You may send payment to P.O. Box 3, Cazadero 95421. The club is looking for new members that can help us reach our goals, as well as to create new ones for the year. You may also check out our Facebook page.
Linda Baswell, a tireless poll worker among her other local good works, tells me that there were approximately 700 registered voters in Cazadero for the recent primary. Please continue to register and vote in November, by mail if necessary.
The Federal Income Tax filing date has been extended to July 15. I do not know about Sonoma County property tax dates.
I hope that you are all able to somehow relax in your homes
and surroundings. This is of course, a nerve-wracking time. Call your friends - email, too. Catch up on reading. Cook for each other and generally SLOW DOWN!! Easy to say and hard to do! Go to the beach. Be healthy!
I wish a very happy April birthday to Wes Parmeter on the 5th, J.J. Marek on the 7th and Steve Parmeter on the 22nd. Celebrate and eat cake!
I know that we are a resilient bunch here in the hills and canyons. I am just so very sad that we must once again pass such a test.
Please call me at 632-5545 or email mayawrld@sonic.net with info for your Caz Column!
When in doubt if you’re thinking about going to any events this month, best thing to do is check the events website or call to see if it is still going on. We are a resilient Community and we know that this to shall pass. Let’s all be aware of what we need to do to keep our Community safe. Cover your cough/ sneeze and wash your hands. Keep showing kindness and help out where you can without putting yourself in jeopardy. I know I’m preaching to the choir so enough of that from me.
Now, let’s see what’s rollin on the River (when we are off quarantine) in April. Just a reminder about the First Friday of the month Art Walks. Perfect time to look at our local artist work, tasting rooms and restaurants.
It’s a perfect way to support them for sharing their beautiful art, tastings and food. Great way to get your exercise for the day.
We must continue to support our local businesses as much as possible. Many of our friends and neighbors rely on all of us for their livelihood.
Congratulation to Pat’s! Pat’s International will be celebrating their 80th Anniversary. To find out more information go to their website at ilovepats.com and see what festivities they have planned.
Here’s a fun community event. Let’s help Friends, Residents of Guerneville (FROG) celebrate “Just one bag” on Earth Day which is April 22. It’s really something most of us do already. What they are asking us to do is use a
bag and go around your neighborhood and pick up trash and put it in your garbage receptacle on April 22nd. What a great idea to help contribute to
our Earth. (Shhhhhh by the way, my Birthday is on Earth Day and I will be turning 60). What better present for me to give myself by helping on Earth Day.
Happy Easter to EVERYONE! We might still be waiting out this virus but spend time with your family and friends if you can. Wow I just had a thought, If we have to be 6’ apart still at Easter, my table will be a mile long. All kidding aside, enjoy your holiday and if you are not cooking check out the local restaurants. Prepare yourself if they are still doing take out only.
No matter what you choose to do, I will always keep you informed on what’s rollin on the river
I leave you with a quote, “Hope is able to see there is light despite all of the darkness” ~ Desmond Tutu
We are fortunate to be living in spacious areas, with direct access to quietude. We do not have crowded elevators in our living spaces.
Take a deep breath with me and continue to rejoice in nature.
