Roseland Rhythms Resounding
This summer while teachers are away there are kids out playing in the park almost daily at Bayer Farm across from Shepard School on West Ave. Up at Roseland Village Shopping Center there are many days when the Roseland Branch Library is brimming with activity. Most mornings this summer music is pumping out of the Roseland Community Center on Sebastopol Rd., where the library is currently housed. Most weekday mornings the loud thumping rhythms of music for Zumba classes start early in the morning before the Library opens at 10 am. The library now is open Monday through Saturday with a 10 am opening each of these days except Wednesday when the opening is later at 6 pm to 9 pm. Zumba is o ered by the Roseland Parents Club for a small charge of $2.00 per morning session which are well attended.
On Saturday July 22 at 2 pm the local band Los Gu’achis played an hour long concert with music from Mexico and the Southwest of the US. They were well received by the audience and there were seating spaces for over 175 people at over 25 tables set up at the event. There was plenty of open space there even with the tables and chairs in place. The music was good and it was nice free event sponsored by the Sonoma County Library according to new manager of the Roseland branch Ms. Jacquelyn Martinez. She is happy with her activities in Roseland and how well received the library services are.

and DVDs for use
by customers there
are also bilingual
story times for
children as well
as “Read to a
Dog”. This is an
opportunity for
children to practice
their reading
skills with a “non-
judgmental” dog
sitting quietly there
with other children
from families also
listening. “I am
excited to be here
and be a part of this
community in Roseland.” said Ms. Martinez.
The hot days of both June and July have brought comments from many
of the youngsters I talk with about how they wished there was a public swimming pool here in Roseland. That has been one of my almost lifelong dreams since the Sunlight Swim used to be on Gi en Ave. before the R.L. Stevens Elementary School was built there next to Stony Pt. Rd. in the Wright School District. About a half mile south of Roseland in the Bellevue School District is Elsie Allen High School and a swimming pool there would possibly be welcomed. Work on Andy Lopez Unity Park has begun further to the southeast on Moorland Ave. in the county area to the south of Santa Rosa.
Roseland further to the north may nally “all be annexed” into the
city of Santa Rosa. On Wednesday August 2, 2017 at 2 pm the “Roseland Annexation” by the city of Santa Rosa is the topic of a public hearing at
the Sonoma County Local Agency Formation Committee. The meeting
will be held in the Sonoma County Board of Supervisors Chambers at 575 Administration Drive, in Room 100 A, Santa Rosa, CA 95403. If you want to speak up be there or submit comments by mail or email to sonomalafco.org. The map below shows the exact boundaries of Roseland and also of the area of the Roseland County Island to be annexed.
