   Happy September!
By all these lovely tokens September days are here, With summer’s best of weather and autumn’s best of cheer. ~ Helen Hunt Jackson
While summer fun may have ended with the start of school, in Cloverdale fun never ends...it just changes seasons!
While it is sad to see the end of the many summertime concert series and other events, it’s also very nice to take a deep breath before fall in wine country really takes hold. No matter what time of year it is, it’s never anything like “dull” in this part of Northern Sonoma County.
Fun continues into the fall with Cloverdale’s 26th Annual Car and Motorcycle Show featuring 200- 250 classic vehicles. This fun for everyone
One event that returns with the season is the monthly Geyserville Chamber of Commerce dinner series held every second Tuesday from September to June. These are fun community-based events here offering a speaker and a meal.
The chance to socialize with local wine and a special drink in the cocktail hour beforehand never disappoints. Tickets and information are available at the Geyserville Chamber of Commerce website at geyservillechamber.com/events/ or call. These do sell out so it is advised to get your tickets early—and that helps the group sponsoring the meals to plan ahead. And if they overestimate —that can be good too. I still remember snagging a fantastic “extra” whole cooked tri-tip at the end of one night’s festivities.
weekend event kicks off Friday night, September 6th, with the fabled “Cloverdale Boulevard Cruise” of entrants traveling from Ace Hardware at the south of town up to Hamburger Ranch on the north. Enjoy your own special cruise into the past. Just choose a spot along the route.
The last Sunset Music Series event this year at The Ranch at Lake Sonoma happens on Sunday, September 8th. The inaugural season for this series at The Ranch has been a smashing success – if you haven’t experienced the combination of great music and beautiful location yet, this is your last chance to do so this year. It’s a quick, romantic drive along the valley of vineyards
Not only are all these classic models still mobile, most are also “auto”matic. Their drivers are truly the automatic part of the operation, since they actually have to shift the gears! Anyone recall doing that?
- and then you get to enjoy being literally “above it all” at the ranch site. Local beer, wine and bites are all available for purchase on-site. Calling for directions at (707) 494-4449 may be helpful if you have not been there before, but it’s pretty easy to find. Although it is free to attend, they also have an Eventbrite page and you can register there if you wish. eventbrite.com/e/ sunset-music-series-tickets-62027906137?aff=ebdssbdestsearch
Then, on Saturday, September 7th, Cloverdale Boulevard will be lined from Lake Street to Third Street with a wide variety of mostly familiar, yet charming or spectacular, contest entrants from a wide range of makes and models gone by. You might even spot an old friend! Young New Yorker Carol never had a car ‘til she moved here, while young California native Reece once drove a 1941 Plymouth Coupe. Sure enough, she rediscovered one at this very Show! Info: cloverdalecarshow.com
Looking ahead to October, be sure to get your tickets for the 4th Annual Geyserville Beer, Wine and Spirits Festival slated for October 13th. Once again, it’s held at the beautiful vineyard-surrounded grounds at the Geyserville Inn. Numerous local breweries, wineries and distilleries will participate for an afternoon of free music and fun, plus food available for purchase. It’s put on by the Geyserville Lodging Association of which Isis Oasis is a member. Tickets start at just $20. Grab more details at the Eventbrite page at https://www.eventbrite.com/e/2019-geyserville-beer-wine-spirits- festival-tickets-53122477761?aff=ebdssbdestsearch.

Saturday evening, Alexander Valley Film Society creates nostalgic, yet timely Drive-In Movie fun at our Citrus Fair Grounds. American Graffiti (1973), produced by Francis Ford Coppola and directed by George Lucas, revolves around the last night of the summer before four friends leave for college as they cruise the strip, gather at the drive-in, and say goodbye to their high school days. Gates open at 6pm. Music by a local band, 6-7:30pm. Movie starts at dusk (8pmish). Tickets: $40 for as many as you can cram into a car or $12 for an individual-bring your own chair. Mid-month, fall fun continues with Blues Night opening its fourth season at the Arts Alliance on Saturday, September 14th and continues on 2nd Saturdays through May. Swing, dance, or roll to the music. House band,
The Blue Lights, is performing plus new songs and special guests will be introduced. Info: Arts Alliance, 204 North Cloverdale Boulevard; Tickets: $5.
As September ends, there is special fun and a good laugh thanks to “Kitchen Witches” at the Cloverdale Performing Arts Center, 209 North Cloverdale Boulevard, on the 27th, 28th, 29th and into October. Two
chefs are in a war because the husband of one dated the other prior to the marriage. However, the two also host a show together, hence the stage is set for both war and laughter. 9/27 is a pay-what-you-can preview at 7:30pm. September closes with a night of Classic Rock at the Citrus Fair Grounds featuring two remarkably great bands: Journey Revisited captures Journey’s glorious vocals with songs such as Don’t Stop Believin’ and Any Way You Want It that bring back memories of or introduce young people to the Rock Era. Opening band is THE HOTS with music based on the Rock Era, but is “old school rock with new wheels” giving a new flavor to the old music. Neither group uses backing tracks, giving us authentic sounds both old and new. Citrus Fair Grounds Auditorium, 1 Citrus Fair Drive. Doors open at 5:30pm; THE HOTS begin at 6pm with Journey Revisited coming on stage at 7:30pm.General Admission $15: VIP Reserved $30, Pre-sale

This reminded us that Cloverdale has another kind of drive-in—a historic eatery famous beyond its city, county, and even state limits. Originally called Reed and Bell Root Beer Refreshery, now Pick’s, was built in 1923 next door to what was then the Cloverdale Free Public Library funded by Carnegie. Today, the Library’s original building and garden area is home to Kelley and Young’s delightful Wine at the Library Tasting Room while Pick’s still serves up a truly fine hamburger with scrumptious fries, Coca-Cola...and more!
