Happy New Year and what a great year it will be for Petaluma! For
a moment I will reflect on some of our recent events. Everyone loves driving around during the holidays to see the Christmas light displays on Petaluma’s City of Lights Driving Tour. Congrats first place individual winner Michael Crutchon, and there was a tie for first place business winners: Sunrise Senior Living and Armor Locksmith. Thousands turned out for the annual Petaluma River Lighted Boat Parade and Hospice Light Up A Life Tree Lighting ceremony.
Penngrove to Cotati. They enjoyed weeks of their jam-packed opening. We loved their roomy new digs and chatting with Megan, an enthusiastic new staff. The Jaded Toad brew-pub and grill recently opened in the Oliver’s Market complex. Speaking of Oliver’s, their new seating area promises a comfortable spot for having snacks or lunch. Renovations should be completed soon.
Local grain industry got a boost in their launch of the North Coast Grain Alliance. Food Movement icon Frances Moore Lappe (a rock star in the history of the food movement) spoke for hundreds that showed up to help return a thriving local grain economy to northern California. It was a mixed crowd of famers, ranchers, millers, bakers, brewers, distillers. Also an exciting series about local farmers was introduced by KRCB called North Bay Bountiful. Among other great Sonoma County farms featured, Petaluma’s Tara Firma, Canvas Ranch and Green String farms were featured in videos how they are growing affordable healthy food using sustainable farming techniques.
We love pizza. Do you know that Sal’s New Yorker Pizzeria offers slices? They receive four stars on Yelp for pizza, yummy meatballs, hearty sandwiches, fresh homemade salad dressings and large portions. Missed my December column featuring the Olive Branch Company? Visit for organic olive oil, olives and herbs or choose skin products from the Dead Sea. One of a kind personal service selecting gifts and gift baskets is their specialty.
