What’s in a GO BAG?
This is your GRAB IT and RUN bag of everything you need in
an emergency...including your passport, insurance documents, birth certificates, titles to your cars, trust/ will, insurance documents, bank account numbers, etc.. Put these in waterproof envelopes & box. Stuff some cash and/or traveler’s checks
in here as well, and a credit card you don’t use that has a high limit.
Yes, you can keep these all in a box that’s EASY to find and grab. Go ahead, throw in your most precious family photos, just keep it LIGHT so it’s EASY to carry with you!
Now on to the other stuff:
oPrescription Medications oGlasses for reading/driving oFirst Aid information
oPaper, pencil, pens for writing oEntertainment like books, etc. oCell phone and charger oInternet devices/tablets, etc. oSleeping bags/blankets, pillows,
stuffed animals, a mylar blanket oVariety of clothing for each
individual in your home. Diapers if
you have babies.
oHousehold bleach for disinfecting
water, etc. 16 drops per gallon of water will do it, but it MUST be PLAIN bleach..not scented. etc.
oFire extinguisher, You should have one in your kitchen and car, but put at least a small one in this kit. Check it now and them to make sure it’s still functional.
oMatches in a waterproof container oPersonal hygiene products oCups, plates, utensils for eating oPet food and water for 3 days oPower bars, the kind that have real
food value (grains, nuts, fruit). oWATER - one gallon per person for
at least 3 days
oBattery or crank-powered radio oFlashlights with extra batteries oWhistle to signal for help oDust mask for each person and
animal
oTent or plastic sheeting for shelter oBasic tools, wrench, pliers, screw
driver, hammer, small garden saw oMAPS
oKeep a large kit stashed where you can easily find it and consider keeping a smaller kit in each car... just in case. The more portable you are the better!
oThink FUEL...if you have a gas can you keep for the lawn mower, it could come in handy!!
