   Rio Nido Sign:
There has been some serious discussion of adding lights to our red Rio Nido sign. Discussions are currently underway. Clare Harris the past owner of Johnson’s Beach is assisting the Friends of Rio Nido (FRN) with this project. Now THAT’s exciting news!
Rio Nido Post Office:
Jumping through hoops and hurdles and not giving up. The Friends of Rio Nido have met with the U.S. Postal Service reps and agreed on restoring our post office. There will be some changes. We have garnered the support of the Regional Managers from San Francisco to Eureka. The District Manager is also in support as well as the USPS Marketing rep. More updates to come as we move closer to making this happen, so stay tuned and be patient, its all in the works...a great big thanks to (FRN) for their persistence.
PG&E agreed to move the electrical poles around the fountain. Once this is completed, FRN will be able to start work on beautifying our historic fountain. With all the rules and regulations with any and all projects these days, it takes time. The good news is we are making strides on all of the above.
PG&E:
Many of you have been asking about whats going on with PG&E. They are replacing the old hazardous poles throughout RN. They are doing upgrades in our Community to minimize fires from electrical poles. Should you have any questions or concerns, please contact Linda Clifton, the PG&E Contact person at 707 577-7218.
Our little Putt Putt course and clubhouse has undergone a complete transformation with a wonderful group of individuals who have gone the extra mile and transformed Pee Wee golf. What a dramatic change from the earlier years. The Clubhouse has been restored with pin ball machines, a foosball table, hoola hoops, an assortment of ice cream, sodas and candies and other games for the kids. A BIG shoutout goes to the following amazing local people and volunteers: Pam, Margaret, Domenic, Beverly & Doug, Steve & Patty, Marsee & Adam, Allyson, Lyra, Tiffany and the Leone Family, Gabe, Nate, Linda, Nadine, Debi and Ann. Teamwork makes the Dream work. You guys are beyond awesome!
Back to School:
It’s that time of year when August creeps up on us and its back to school once again. Lounging and watching television while sipping my sweet tea I was bombarded by “back to school” commercials on the tv. In my opinion school should be back in session after the Labor Day holiday.
National Night Out:
The Friends of Rio Nido are hosting National Night Out. This will take place at the picnic tables adjacent to the Dog Park on Tuesday, August 6th from 4:30-6:00pm. This is a potluck so bring some delicious food and as always FRN provides the BBQ. Come meet our local Firefighters and Sheriffs. I’m looking forward to it. Always, always a FUN time. See you there!
Mickey is the runt of the litter. He
is a tiny little black fur ball. He is the namesake of a fine man who resided in Tahoe. Mickey is fast and furious. He is loyal to his big sister Clare (who by the way was last months pet of the month). Mickey is a curious little fella who is as fast as a lightning bolt.
August. Where has the summer gone? It seems like the dams were just installed and here we are with school starting on August 15th! Guerneville School has exciting news that Jolene Morasch has been selected as the new Guerneville K-8 Principal! She begins her new role in the 2019-2020 school year and is a current teacher, resident, active parent and educational leader.
RN Fountain Refurbishment:
The Rockin on the River’s free music concert series continues to be a success every other Thursday evening beginning at 7pm on the plaza. Don’t forget to visit the Farmer’s Market over on Fourth St behind St. Hubert’s Hall, where you can enjoy the taste of fresh and locally grown fruits and vegetables while supporting your local farmer.

Wishes and Secrets Hair Salon will be having its Grand Re-Opening and Ribbon Cutting Ceremony on Sat Aug 10th at 2pm. Be sure to go visit the one, the only, the beautiful Nicky Gibson and see the fabulous remodel of her shop since the floods. Congratulations to you my groovy friend!
And, while we are mentioning groovy hair stylists, our longtime friend and resident hair stylist John Bennie has returned to his River home after spending over year in the hospital! John has been battling cancer and has worked very hard with his rehabilitation in order to return home. John needs our help in raising funds for the purchase of a chair lift to give him the ability to safely
go up and down the stairs at his home; let’s pull together and support him, by making a donation to the fundraising account established at Community First Credit Union! Let’s show John how much he is appreciated & welcomed home!
Gator Nation congratulates you Mrs. Morasch!

Speaking of the Chamber, the Executive Director, Elise VanDyne, will be joining Supervisor Hopkins’ office to work as a Field Rep supporting District
5 communities; Congratulations Elise! Elise has been very instrumental in the building of a solid team at the Chamber Office, writing grants, bringing in new members and delivering high quality programs to local business owners. Elise plans on helping in the hiring process and training of her successor; thank you Elise for all you have brought to the Chamber! We will miss you!

In closing, (I normally don’t do birthdays, but this is an exception), I’d like to wish my best friend and husband Bill Rudometkin and my daughter Crystal Kowal (who just blessed us with our handsome grandson) a very Happy Birthday! I love you to the moon and back, around the world and back again, forever and a day!
Let’s give Mickey a big RN welcome!
