Local Author Hillary Homzie writes for Children
        By Anna Burke
As parents we try to teach our kids
all the time. From important lessons, to complicated concepts, to good morals. However it can be hard, really hard. Especially for kids that are starting to recognize not everything is black and white. How do you teach your kid when to be honest and when too much honesty can hurt someone’s feelings?
Reminiscent of the Beezus and Ramona
or Judy Moody books from our own childhood, comes a new chapter series starring the rambunctious and spunky Ellie May. The Ellie May Children’s series by Hillary Homzie may be exactly the tool you need to help guide your kid through rights and wrongs.
Why is Ellie May a good role model for your kids? Because she is not perfect. She makes mistakes and is learning and growing, right along with your child.
These books are perfect for the emerging reader, ages 5-9. The reading level is challenging, but not daunting. It is the ultimate chapter book to transition your child from picture books to novels. So not only will it encourage your kids to act on their best behavior, but it will encourage them to become a star reader!

The Tradition Continues! Kick off your holiday season with Capote and Thomas.
     A Child’s Christmas in Wales
Dylan Thomas’s prose poem, A Child’s Christmas in Wales, is a lush description
of a Welsh Christmas. It is both a beautiful and poignant work. “Bring out the tall tales now that we told by the fire as the gaslight bubbled like a diver. . . .”
Then, enjoy this delightful interpretation
of Truman Capote’s early work. In his
1956 story, A Christmas Memory, Capote remembers when he was 10 years old and it was “fruitcake weather.” His holiday rituals are painted with loving and nostalgic strokes,
becoming a truly memorable experience for all ages.
