To keep the roots moist and create humid air for the tree, put the pot inside a big waterproof rubber bin to make it easy to water the plant without getting your floor wet. Place a few bricks under the pot to elevate it, so water collects in the bottom of the bin to provide moist air but not have the roots sitting in standing water.

How long you keep the tree inside is trickier, especially if you want to use the tree for the next few years. The first 10 days are pretty easy unless you have a wood stove
in the same room as the tree (not recommended). Pushing out to 20 days is risky, so set your tree up within a week before Christmas and get it back outside after Christmas.
Keep your house at around 70°F during the day 66°F at night. And use LED Christmas lights because they stay cool and won’t heat or burn your tree. You will usually start with a fairly young tree so keep the decorations light.
If you don’t have room in your yard to plant a tree, see if someone who is rebuilding after the fire wants your tree. With that in mind, finding a tree native to where you live is best. Nurseries will be glad to give you suggestions.
