P. 2

Dear Readers,
I’m big on elections, Democracy, and community involvement (as Gazette readers know), so I devote a fair amount of space to issues I feel strongly about. It’s one of the advantages of publishing this paper. I try to stay as neutral as possible - most of the time - but sometimes my opinion is so strong it is very evident in these pages. I actually wrote an OPINION this month!
Our Sheriff Office race is HUGE in both April and May Gazettes with questions to our candidates that were submitted by readers. Naturally, there are MORE, but we only have so much room. Please get to know the candidates and where they stand BEFORE you VOTE! Forming your own opinion, not just echoing what others think, will bring leadership to this department that better represents our community than we have had in the past.
And because Jill Ravitch, our District Attorney, is unopposed in this election, I asked her to write about what motivated her to run in the first place, what she has accomplished, and how being our DA has influenced her goals.
Yes, there are always more articles than I have room to print, so this month
I put priority on HOUSING and CANNABIS because these issues are on the top of our conversation list right now. I also have an article on the General Plan because it is about to come up for renewal, but this month there was not room left for this very well-written and researched article, written by Carol Benfell.
Choosing which articles make tit to print is a combination of looking for
a broad range of interests and paying attention to my own agenda. The one thing I know is that just about every person who tells me how much they
love reading the Gazette always bring up is the Community Columns. Those columns, written by people intimately involved it their communities, are the heart of the Gazette. Each author is a remarkable reflection of the community in which s/he lives.
Please stay in touch with what happens in between print editions by visiting our website at www.SonomaCountyGazette.com. We keep up as much as we can, but when topics are important, we make sure they get posted.
And I am proud to say there is no other calendar that covers as many ways to entertain yourself as we have...so please take a look,
in print and online to find ways to have fun!
Enjoy!
