   The sun is shining on the large redwoods outside of my now airy cyber- hut! We have picked up considerable rain in April and I do feel a bit better about local water levels. After years of camping, I am quite conservative in my personal and household water usage and really appreciate others dedication to this.

Please attend the next meeting of the Cazadero Community Club on Tuesday May 1st-7 p.m. at Firehall #1. All are welcome to help plan great events which benefit the entire community. Elections were held recently. Here is the current slate of Caz Club Officers: President, Maureen Berry, Vice-President, Marissa Martinez, Treasurer, Patti Godwin and Secretary, Kathie Merrill. Thank you all for stepping up to lead the Club’s endeavors.
School’s Almost OUT!
Fire Safety for May
As we head towards the end of the school year, the students at the Montgomery Elementary School have several activities to look forward to. On May 3rd Ms. Port’s TK-2nd graders are going to a secret location in Sebastopol to make Mother’s Day presents. Field Day happens this month as well. We invite the students and staff from Fort Ross School to have a day of fun competition on our big field. The Parent’s Booster Club offers us lunch and all have a terrific time. The date is yet to be determined. We will post the date on our bulletin board at the general Store.

With this being said, you will repeatedly be getting information from your local fire departments regarding defensible space and what you can do to keep your house fire-safe. Please remember to keep 100’ of clearance (or up to property lines) around structures on your property. Please remember to use the appropriate tool for the job (don’t use a lawn mower or lawn tractor to mow high weeds, use a high weed mower). Please remember to mow early and mow often. When clearing weeds and debris from your property, please remember to clear early in the morning and have extinguishing tools at your disposal.
 As Spring progresses, so do our many projects. Cazadero Supply offers its 1st Saturday 15% Discount day, with an incredible assortment of yard, household and vehicle items to assist you. Raymond’s Bakery features their Friday Pizza and Music Nights from 6-9 p.m. and has a presence at many Farmer’s Markets with their delectable baked goods. Both the Cazadero and Duncans Mills General Stores stock daily grocery items and many local specialties, including wine, meat and fish, bread and soaps, plus tasty sandwiches and soups to go. Marissa Martinez’s new shop in Duncans Mills ‘Mason and James’, located near the flower store in Duncans Mills offers women’s and men’s clothing-open most days. Treats and Toys, adjacent to the Duncans Mills P.O. has delicious truffles, plus other candies, ice cream and games. Visit Mr. Trombly’s Teas and Table Shops near Cape Fear Cafe for incredible household decor and wonderful teas, many in bulk so that you may easily try a variety. Gold Coast Coffee and Bakery has a new greatly expanded deck, the perfect spot to enjoy their terrific variety of coffee and other drinks and fabulous bakers goods and pizza. Live music on the weekends, too. Downtown Cazadero’s newest shop ‘Caz Central’ has beautiful locally handcrafted pieces, including items from long-time local resident and retired Guerneville librarian Ginger Hadley. Also available at Caz Central is local poet Shashana Kane Proctor’s newest book “Cave of the Casting Bones”.

As the spring rains end, the grass will begin to grow very fast with our sunny weather. Please keep grass, brush, weeds, and other flammable materials cleaned up around your homes.

Thank you everyone who attended the annual Bodega Bay Fisherman’s Festival. Saturday was one for the record books. Sunday was also very well attended despite the rain.
